Carry it from 1 farm to the next they say birds that mean chickens or turkeys or anything up it covers both of. 00:11:09
Go to ducks I think are a little more resilient, but it's still effects them. But a lot of it's the turkeys and chickens, right? 00:11:18
The conservation talking points for the month Purdue released this extension publication in small wood lots. Important rest stops 00:11:27
for migratory birds. 00:11:31
So migratory birds in the fall and in the back of the spring made thousands of mile trips segments over the course of up to two 00:11:35

Periodically they must. 00:11:43
Stop resting, wait for acceptable weather to continue their flight. 00:11:45
Small wood lots are really important for migration of these birds. They're considered migratory stop oversights. 00:11:50
Migratory stopover sites must provide enough food, water and shelter for the birds to replenish their energy while avoiding 00:11:58
potential. 00:12:01
Predators such as Hawks, raccoons and cats. 00:12:06
The the loss of forest habitat they're breeding in wintering areas has been suspected. 00:12:11
Declines of our bird populations. 00:12:17

Northern Indiana is one of the most heavily altered landscapes in the Midwest. Most of the original forests and prairies have been 00:12:25

10% of this historical force so the forests that are left have to be the most productive they could be so these birds have. 00:12:37

Small wood locks, you think. You go out in them this time. Here you see a Robin, a cardinal couple. 00:12:47
Common birds, but they found in research up in northern Indiana that small wood lots. 00:12:52
May host relatively few species of birds during the breeding season, yet have been heavily used during migration. 00:12:57
A study conducted on 12 small woodlocks and typical. 00:13:04
New and surrounding county counties during the spring migration in May. 00:13:07
In the fall, migration in September document presence of 76 species migratory songbirds, including 34 species of warblers. 00:13:11
8 species of flycatchers, 6 species of virus, and five species of. 00:13:18
Brushes in a number of these species or conservation concern because of their smaller, rapidly declining population. So our small 00:13:23
woodlots are very important for. 00:13:28
Migratory birds, you wouldn't think it, you know, 5 acre lot here, 10 acre lot here to have much relevance. 00:13:33
But for the birds, it's really important. 00:13:40
In in areas where we have small wood lots, it's important to get rid of the invasive species because our invasive plants did not 00:13:42
evolve with these migratory birds. 00:13:46
So they. 00:13:51
They don't have the energy that these birds need for their migration, whereas a native. 00:13:52
Bush or a native tree has a lot more fat content in their in their in their fruits compared to like a. 00:13:56
Autumn olive or burning Bush where it's a high carbohydrate. So if you're traveling thousands of miles you want a lot higher fat 00:14:03
diet. 00:14:06
You a carbohydrate diet so there is a lot of importance even in our backyards we have. 00:14:09

Make them most efficient, maximize their use. For blackboard birds, it's good. 00:14:16
