All the meetings are. 00:00:17
Through meeting minutes. 00:00:20
Motion approved Last month's meeting. 00:00:23
So we were Penn State and District. 00:00:25
Aye, second all in favor. 00:00:28
Aye. 00:00:30
Well, let's sign those. 00:00:32
And since you were technically not officially on the board, you won't be signing these this month, but everybody else will right 00:00:34
after assignment. 00:00:38
TO. 00:00:54
Financial Report. 00:01:22
OK, so to Rons. 00:01:23
Great pleasure. 00:01:27
We have. 00:01:30
A joint. 00:01:32
Combined checking and savings accounts that exceeds $100,000. 00:01:35
So we started the month with $66,939.64 and we ended the month with $86,057.25 in our checking account. 00:01:40
Our savings account currently sits at $17,237.92 for a grand total run $103,295.17. 00:01:52
Yeah, the pocket change. 00:02:06
I'll make a motion to prove it financial. 00:02:13
Report. 00:02:15
All in favor, aye? 00:02:17
And in case you're wondering about that big jump. 00:02:21
The reason we got that 20,000, that is our clean water Indiana, what they call our capacity grant now, they don't call it CWI 00:02:24
anymore, it's capacity. 00:02:28
But. 00:02:33
We received that because we. 00:02:34
Dotted all of our eyes and crossed all of our T's and met all of our deadlines and turned in our annual financial report. 00:02:36
Yes, we are. 00:02:47
We have any guest reports? 00:02:50
Okay. 00:02:56
No crazy updates on our end. We are kind of wrapping up RCPP. 00:02:59
We did spend all of our money in the past three years, which is great. 00:03:06
So no new contracts for that this year. I'm working on some project outcomes and reporting and all that kind of stuff. 00:03:09
We are hearing that there should be another notice of funding to apply for SCP again, so. 00:03:18
Keep telling people to keep that on their radar, even though it feels like I've been saying that for a few months. It might be one 00:03:24
of those situations where we'll just, we'll believe it when we see it. 00:03:28
But as far as the Clean water Indiana grant, that is quite close to getting up and running. 00:03:34
So as a reminder, this is kind of covering the same project area as farmers helping health vendors with RCBP. 00:03:39
But we've actually added Clark County, most of Clark County through the Silver Little Kentucky watershed and then the rest of 00:03:46
Floyd County. So basically all of Floyd County is covered. 00:03:51
We're doing more legislative cover practices. 00:03:56
On the farm side of things, that's looking more like field quarters and filter strips, but we also intend to do some tree 00:03:59
plantings. 00:04:03
Pollinator planting, things like that. So we hope to kind of reach. 00:04:07
A slightly different audience there, maybe even a more urban audience as well. 00:04:11
So I'm excited that we'll get that up and running here soon. 00:04:15
We are almost there with. 00:04:18
Kind of getting all of our practice guidelines sorted out, so I'll probably bring a copy of those to the next meeting for you all 00:04:21
to look over. 00:04:24
We're in the process of getting a project coordinator hired for that position. 00:04:29
Umm, so the listing is out right now if you know of anybody that might be interested. 00:04:34
Please feel free to send them our way. 00:04:39
I am gonna send out an e-mail tomorrow to our whole partner group with that link. 00:04:42
As the people can cast record. 00:04:46
I have Laura's DSS update if. 00:04:55
Or you can go since you're here. 00:05:00
Concerns. Be quick, OK? Yeah, you know it. 00:05:04
All right, so Laura's DSS update just came today. 00:05:06
The district support specialists update, that's what the acronym I know I'm throwing a bunch of them at Jenna. It'll take you a 00:05:10
minute to to catch hold of them. 00:05:14
But the one thing that Laura really wanted to emphasize, and there's a couple of different copies here. 00:05:18
Is for this board leadership program. This is the new thing that they're kind of rolling out. I don't know if you guys remember 00:05:25
from. 00:05:29
Days of your. 00:05:33
When they had the different leadership things going on. 00:05:35
Yes, yes. 00:05:41
Yeah. So they had different trainings where they really want supervisors to. 00:05:43
Network more and. 00:05:50
Bring some new ideas and different things and so. 00:05:53
Anyway, this leadership program is is not only intended for supervisors, though, it's intended for staff too. 00:05:56
But anyway, they are setting the date for June 12th. It's going to be up at the Indiana Farm Bureau building. So there's. 00:06:02
The good thing about having meetings there is that there's ample parking and it's free and they have food on site, so. 00:06:11
Having meetings there is not so bad, but anyway. 00:06:17
That's the big thing that they're really kind of pushing is make sure that if you can attend that, please do. 00:06:20
As a new supervisor, you should have received an e-mail from her. 00:06:28
Yes, OK. Yeah, I haven't done anything. 00:06:33
Surely I have received it. So again, that is just for for newly elected folks. She'll go over some things with you and. 00:06:35
Beyond that? 00:06:45
That's really kind of it, training through. 00:06:47
New supervisors and staff so. 00:06:50
Keep that in mind if you guys are interested, I might be going to that as well just because. 00:06:53
Feel like there's always an opportunity to learn something. 00:06:59
But anyway. 00:07:03
Stop Slur's update if anybody's interested. 00:07:05
All right, Drew, tell you, buddy. 00:07:12
All right, let's see, Let's start with the state office talking points. 00:07:14
There's, if you've seen in the news, there's a regenerative pilot program that's going on. This is. 00:07:20
The NRCS Regenerative Pilot Program is a farmer first, outcome based approach to conservation design and will turn the agency to 00:07:27
its core mission of helping people help the land. 00:07:32
Across the nation, there's $700 million specifically to the. 00:07:38
Support regenerative agriculture, including 400 million through EQUIP and 300 million through CSP. 00:07:41
This is the same funds that we have through Farm Bill, just 25% of equipped and 25% of the CSP funds for each state has to be 00:07:47
bookmarked. 00:07:52
The regenerative pilot program. 00:07:56
This pilot program addresses whole farm resource concerns through support for voluntary regenerative agricultural conservation 00:07:58
plans. It also puts American farmers versus part of the solution to make America healthy again. 00:08:05
By supporting access to American grown Whole Foods critical to addressing the chronic disease nationwide. 00:08:11
With this program, there is a soil health test that has to take place year one and Year 5 on the farms and it it it looks at more 00:08:18
than just your MPK and. 00:08:23
The the fertility in line it looks at. 00:08:29
The soil microbes, the. 00:08:32
Solubility of the soil, how well the soil holds together under moisture. There's there's a bunch that goes into it, so. 00:08:35
It allows farmers to track. 00:08:41
What they're doing on their farm in hell if if the conservation practices are implementing will has a lasting ability and improves 00:08:43
your farm over time. 00:08:48
This stuff I've seen through Sarah and other organizations, it takes a minimum of five years to really see the return on 00:08:54
investment with a lot of conservation practices, so. 00:08:58
Having soil samples year one and year five really give you a good outlook. 00:09:03
I know it's been discussion the last couple months a lot that MOU roll out and signing process and it's currently paused. 00:09:08
The MLU signing process was paused. 00:09:15
To clear another hurdle with the Grants and Agreements Division for assessment of the agreement number for each MO use. In 00:09:18
addition, A5 year expiration date was set added to the Mou. 00:09:24
Our area conservationists yesterday in a meeting told us the reason it was paused is. 00:09:30
The Grants and Agreements division said, hey, every county has to have their own code. 00:09:35
So they're having to go out and all of 90 some counties put a code. 00:09:40
On each one, so once they get that it'll be sent back out. 00:09:44
I don't think there's any major changes from what I understand. 00:09:47
Make sure I'm looking at. 00:09:53
Ford counties like Clark County is this more so I stapled them together. 00:09:54
Let's see the application deadline for the Environmental Quality Incentive Program. The Conservation Stewardship Program was back. 00:09:58
In January this is when applicants had their applications on file for us to service them with this first round funding. 00:10:05
We do though accept applications year round, so I'm glad to take any. 00:10:12
Applications if anyone's interested. I've had a lot of field visits here. I had one. 00:10:16
In Floyd County this afternoon for people looking at pollinator plantings for next year, so. 00:10:21
So people, now it's starting to get warm, people are wanting to do stuff. They're calling it seems like usually right after the 00:10:26
deadlines, and everyone calls because they're eager to get going with the spring. 00:10:30
The I have to have all this applications submitted for this first round of signups by April 17th. I'm setting a personal deadline 00:10:36
of the 10th in case something happens on the week to get. 00:10:42
Corrections made. 00:10:47
And anyone who's selected for funding those contracts will have to be signed into contract by July 2nd, so middle of the summer. 00:10:48
In Floyd County. 00:10:56
Can this go around? We have 4 applications, 1 forestry, 2 wildlife and one small farm application. Funding is down this year 00:10:57
through Eclipse. We're looking at roughly $17 million as a state. 00:11:03
When you add in some of the initiatives is $21 million that's available. 00:11:09
What this boils down to and there's no hard math on it, but based off of average at the contract size like. 00:11:14
Cost and the number of applications, they're saying roughly one in five to one in six applications were refunded this year. 00:11:20
So right now also we have CRP going on. The continuous CRP for sign up 65 to Farm Service Agency started on February 12th. 00:11:28
March 20th is the end of the first batch of period. July 31st is the last day producers and submitted for Sign up 65. 00:11:37
General CRP the 66 starts March 9th and April 17th is the deadline to submit offers in. In both these cases, the contracts will 00:11:45
begin October 1st, 1st day of our our fiscal year. 00:11:52
The difference in equipment CRP there are two means the same goal. 00:11:59
Equip gives incentive dollars to address a resource concern, fix the problem within the land is back to the landowner as far as no 00:12:03
contract types or anything like that. Where CRP? 00:12:08
Is taking farmland out of production. 00:12:14
Especially on highly roadable land, marginal land and putting it into a conservation. 00:12:16
Program for 10 years where they the landowner receives a yearly rental payment along with assistance to install conservation 00:12:22
practices. 00:12:26
So they're they're a little different, but two means the same goal. 00:12:31
In the planning of. 00:12:35
Field. Right now I'm in the heart of field visits and planning trying to get all those applications in by the 10th. 00:12:37
Several field visits every day, so if you try to get a hold of me, I'll return your call. Try within 24 hours, but. 00:12:43
Today had. 00:12:49
Two meetings, 2 field visits. So some of those emails and calls would be a little shorter for. 00:12:50
Slower getting back to him. 00:12:55
We received our guidance, announced it's getting the. 00:12:57
The information for land owners. 00:13:00
Upcoming events we had an area meeting. 00:13:03
Yesterday. 00:13:05
Going over our programs rollout meeting, kind of explaining the things that were kind of glanced over during the original meeting. 00:13:07
Clark County has their annual meeting next Saturday, the 14th. 00:13:13
Floyd County has their ACT Community Breakfast on the 7th this Saturday. 00:13:17
We'll be doing the Floyd County transect on the 11th. 00:13:21
And then I will be going to, I think it's Odom, Indiana for the. 00:13:25
Southern Indiana Grazing conference next Friday the 13th. Should be a good one. The keynote speakers. A guy I've been following on 00:13:29
YouTube for a while, I can't think of his name. 00:13:34
He released a documentary, things called Roots So Deep That Touch Hell, and it's all about rotational grazing, how it freezes soil 00:13:38
and everything so. 00:13:42
No, he's one of the speakers, Barry Fisher. He's worked for NRCS. 00:13:47
I this guys out of. 00:13:52
Somewhere in the Southeast, like Georgia or something like that, but. 00:13:53
And then Dr. Hal Hitch will be there. He's the veiled raising specialist in. 00:13:57
Professor at UK. 00:14:04
Past events we had our programs roll out meeting. It felt like it went on all the month of February because it was like 2 days a 00:14:06
week every week for the whole month. 00:14:10
And then? 00:14:14
Our national office is wanting everyone to get a baseline understanding of soil health and soil biology, so we've been having what 00:14:15
we call back to our roots soil health meetings. 00:14:20
And it's just. 00:14:24
How to assess soil on pasture and row crop and forestry and all that. So it's been a good refresher course. The conservation 00:14:26
talking point of the month. 00:14:30
I thought with. 00:14:36
The the weather turning and it raining every day kind of explaining the difference in bio swells and rain gardens and how to 00:14:37
install them would be good ones. 00:14:41
So the difference in them, I'm going to start from the middle here. 00:14:46
Is. 00:14:51
Bio swells are more intended for large volumes of water. It's not necessarily to infiltrate the water, but it's more to slow down, 00:14:53
catch participants and things especially off of. 00:14:58
Parking lots, houses, those sorts of things where rain gardens, the intended purposes is to catch the water and let it infiltrate 00:15:03
into the ground water system right there on the site and they're targeted more for. 00:15:08
Specific runoffs, whether that's the gutter system, off of the house, off of a barn. 00:15:13
Or a small drainage that you can catch and hold. 00:15:18
They're usually designed to attract particulate pollutants. 00:15:21
Suspended soil on tracement. 00:15:26
Metals promote infiltration, which reduces the overall runoff volume and reduces the flow and velocity of stormwater runoff. 00:15:28
So these don't only benefit you, but they benefit your community as a whole. There's less water, the sewage treatment plant has 00:15:36
to. 00:15:39
Has to manage the less downhill downstream flooding. 00:15:43
There's a lot of benefits for everyone. 00:15:47
And depending on the plant selective, they can also provide habitat for birds, butterflies and wildlife. We usually target native 00:15:49
species because they have deeper taproots. They have more wildlife benefits compared to the non-native species. 00:15:55
The goal with both of these is for the water to drain within 24 hours of a storm event so you're. 00:16:01
Don't have to worry about your mosquitoes, those sorts of things. 00:16:07
Design of bioswales is dependent on the number of factors including soil type, groundwater tables, size of the drainage area and 00:16:11
provisions to contribute to the watershed and the dimensions and slopes of the Swale. 00:16:17
Swells and rain gardens should both be designed to withstand a minimum of the 10 year storm event. That a way it's not flooding 00:16:24
over every time. 00:16:28
In the case of bio swells, you don't have to worry about an overflow because it's usually on a slope, so you're trying to run it 00:16:33
to another water body where a. 00:16:37
Rain garden you want to design to where there is either a tile underneath that can get some of the water off quicker if your soil 00:16:41
doesn't allow for infiltration well. 00:16:46
Or a emergency. 00:16:51
Overflow. So if you get a 20 year rainstorm or 100 year rainstorm, or like we've had this week and next week where it rains every 00:16:53
day and the frame garden can't keep up. 00:16:58
There's I tried to highlight some of the the big things in here, a really cool resource. You know, land owners who are interested 00:17:04
in this. 00:17:07
It's the Grow Native project out of Missouri. We're kind of along the same parallels then, where a lot of their native plants work 00:17:11
here. 00:17:14
They have designs for different native landscaping from formal front yard shaded yards. 00:17:18
I I printed off the one or I I sent the one for rain gardens. 00:17:25
And this is an example of an 8 foot by 15 foot rain garden. 00:17:30
The designs goes. 00:17:34
Exactly, and how many of each species you need to put what species work best, and if you're on their website they're all 00:17:35
hyperlinked so you can see like what color they're going to be, the size they will get when they're fully grown. 00:17:41
So that if anyone has any questions or wants more information, I'd be happy to get it for you. That's all I have. 00:17:47
Drew, sometimes you'll have to run over to Slate Run Elementary and check out the garden that that we established there. One end 00:17:55
of it is for let us learn where they do the actual growing of vegetables. 00:18:01
The other end. 00:18:07
It was very, very poor soil when they built the new school. 00:18:08
They basically just, they can attest to it. They were out there with their tillers basically tilling the rocks because there 00:18:13
wasn't much soil. Yeah, but they just basically pushed all the fill from the old school back there. So nothing, nothing was really 00:18:19
growing. Even the grass had just, it was just slime on the soil. 00:18:26
So we installed a. 00:18:32
Rain garden and we really kind of tried to pick. 00:18:34
Natives that also were some of the same. 00:18:38
Colors as the school Yeah. So that was actually a big. 00:18:40
Big fun event. We did a big ribbon cutting and stuff, but next time you're over we're going to be in the county. We'll we can run 00:18:46
over there and take a look at it. That's another really good selling point if you have poor soils or where they've robbed all your 00:18:51
top soil. Natives don't need a lot of fertility, they just need good pH. I had to put a rain garden in my own yard because of poor 00:18:57
drainage. I get my whole neighborhoods run off. 00:19:02
Entering and in fact, my rain garden right now is about that deep with water. Is it really? Mm-hmm. 00:19:08
But I digress. Thank you. 00:19:14
You mentioned MOU, what is that Memorandum of understanding? 00:19:17
It's what was sent out a couple months ago from it's usually every five years. 00:19:22
The Soil Water Partners signed this with the USDA and NRCS. 00:19:27
It goes it's. 00:19:32
Typically shared space or partners, it allows us to share information like addresses and phone numbers and that sort of stuff with 00:19:33
our soil and water partners. 00:19:39
We were working off of a continuation of. 00:19:44
And expired once they're trying to get an updated version for us. 00:19:48
And Kevin would usually go over this with us and just highlight some of the changes. 00:19:52
And again, we're working on kind of an expired one at the moment. 00:19:57
I can do that once we get the new one, mark one up and. 00:20:01
One thing though that the new MO U did. 00:20:05
It took Purdue Extension. 00:20:09
Out of the. 00:20:11
Agreement. Umm. 00:20:13
In the past of. 00:20:15
Purdue was included in the What's considered the CSR? The conservation cropping systems. 00:20:16
Right. Like other conservation partnership, they're still part of that. They're just not part of this so. 00:20:23
In the past, we could technically share information with. 00:20:30
Purdue Extension. 00:20:34
The new MO U excludes us from that. 00:20:36
So. 00:20:39
Again, they're still part of it, but. 00:20:40
That was one of the biggest takeaways from. 00:20:42
From changes. 00:20:44
So. 00:20:46
Not signing it this time. 00:20:48
All right, OK. 00:20:53
Should you have anything you want to? 00:20:56
OK, we'll go to our old business annual meeting room. 00:21:01
Well, I was going to say as far as new business we can. 00:21:06
We can discuss it now under old business. Just what were your thoughts, feelings on the joint meeting and how things went? 00:21:09
I thought wet, pretty, beautiful. It's a good turn out and. 00:21:18
Relevant like, you know, it made sense to do with them together, I think. 00:21:23
You've got similar audiences, so. 00:21:28
And I think that was something that we battled in the past was that sometimes people would either pick their meeting or our 00:21:32
meeting and. 00:21:35
Honestly, that was the best attendance we've had in the last. 00:21:39
Probably 5-6 years we. 00:21:43
Yeah, we have a really good turn out so. 00:21:45
From from my point, uh, in terms of planning setup. 00:21:48
Ordering. 00:21:53
This has been one of the easiest years for me personally. 00:21:54
Uh, having the assistance of their whole office helping put it on so. 00:21:58
I was pretty happy with it other than burn trophies about gave me a heart attack. Uh. 00:22:04
Those conservation stewardship of. 00:22:09
Plaques did not arrive until. 00:22:11
Day of meeting. 00:22:13
And she, she met me here with them. Oh, wow. Yeah. 00:22:16
But. 00:22:20
They had a death in the family and and, and, you know, unexpected things happen. And so, yeah. 00:22:21
It's all good. 00:22:26
But other than that it was good. 00:22:27
Good, you've got 5. 00:22:29
Yeah, so. 00:22:34
Moving forward though. 00:22:37
I will tell you that with the reorganization that's happening with Purdue Extension offices statewide. 00:22:39
They may no longer be obligated to. 00:22:46
Have. 00:22:50
An annual meeting. 00:22:51
So whether or not we have another joint annual meeting with them is totally going to hinge on whether or not they still have are 00:22:52
going to be required to have them. 00:22:57
Because going forward, they may not. 00:23:01
So. 00:23:03
It may have been a one and done. 00:23:04
Item Oh yeah, to to help me plan it, yes. 00:23:08
But no, I, I think and, and as far as attendees, I know you weren't able to join us. You had something else going on, but you've 00:23:16
been to a few of them now. 00:23:20
Visits annual meeting season. 00:23:25
That was really good. 00:23:28
Really good turn out. 00:23:30
I we haven't had one for a while, like they have one but no one shows up. So I was really impressed. 00:23:31
What, 60? Some people, yeah. Yeah, we had like 62. 00:23:38
Speaker yes, yeah, I thought he was pretty dynamic as well. I made sure to give him some good feedback and I thank you for for 00:23:42
coming down because. 00:23:46
He drove down 2 hours to come and speak for us so. 00:23:51
That was a long night for him. 00:23:54
They're working on that stuff right now. 00:24:03
OK, Yeah, yeah. AG Brick. 00:24:07
You know what we have had to increase the number of folks of. 00:24:10
We were a little bit nervous. Our numbers at the end of last week were only hovering about 20 something, and those numbers rapidly 00:24:14
increased Monday and Tuesday. 00:24:20
We ordered breakfast for 70. 00:24:26
Yeah, because our numbers had gone up, we had over. 00:24:29
50 people. 00:24:33
Confirm and then just like last night, that player and Amy, they're going to come. They reached out and said, you know, is it too 00:24:34
late? And I'm like, no, we ordered some extra food so. 00:24:39
With that in mind, we ordered. 00:24:44
Again, Cracker Barrel works for us because they cater, they bring everything. Nobody has to run around. 00:24:46
It's good food and most of our audience are Cracker Barrel folks anyway, So with that in mind. 00:24:53
Betty did go ahead and send the invoice over. Now we're splitting the food bill three ways. 00:25:00
Produce being part of it, Farm Bureau is paying third of it and we're paying 1/3 of it. So our third ends up being $280. 00:25:06
So if anybody would like to make a motion to pay for our portion of the AG breakfast, I'd appreciate it. 00:25:14
Thank you, ma'am. 00:25:21
I'll say that, all right. 00:25:22
Laura. Laura. 00:25:25
Seconded. 00:25:28
Great. Thank you. 00:25:29
In in case you guys didn't know. 00:25:32
Betty is retiring. 00:25:35
Add extension. 00:25:38
Betty Harland, she was around as a part timer for quite a few years and now that she's full time, I think her combined service 00:25:40
Betty Betty has close to 20 years so. 00:25:45
Anyway, she's going out at the end of the month. 00:25:51
I think. 00:25:54
At some point. 00:25:55
They are going to have a party for her, so I'll be sure to let you guys know when the party is. 00:25:57
And if nothing else, get a card signed up for. 00:26:03
OK, the. 00:26:10
Stay at the steakhouse. Yeah, so our advocacy day of. 00:26:16
You know what Liz Rice is. WCD sent out a nice little note about the State House and how the day went. 00:26:21
Sorry that none of us could make it, but it really is a fun day. So if any of you all do you want to make it or want to make a 00:26:30
special visit up there, we can make that happen for you. 00:26:35
Do we know when that's gonna be? 00:26:41
Of this year, it was on March 6th. I mean, I'm sorry, it was more, it was February. 00:26:43
4th It was literally like the day after it was, yeah. 00:26:49
So that's already passed. Yeah, yeah. That that was the day after our annual meeting, literally the next morning. 00:27:02
But if you ever want to just go up, session is over. But if you want to go to the State House, we do. 00:27:09
ISWCD has a lobbyist that will take you on a tour. 00:27:16
OK, annual. 00:27:26
That is still a work in progress and Cole's not here tonight. He had some things that he wanted to add to it and. 00:27:28
I think you guys agreed to allow him to have some input with that and he. 00:27:38
He did have a few things. He has our newsletter. 00:27:43
Just about finished, he said he would get that sent out. We'll have it sent out by the end of March so that we can advertise. 00:27:46
The Pollinator Day and some other things we have coming up. 00:27:55
But. 00:27:59
Annual plan of work, as you guys know, that's always a work in progress and we usually don't get it signed until the middle of 00:28:00
summer, but I did take your. 00:28:04
Advice for a completion column? 00:28:10
So getting that updated to show that not only when we have it planned, but when we have it completed. 00:28:13
Have any other opens? 00:28:25
Real quick. 00:28:27
At one of our meetings, we talked about Pollinator Day sponsorship and we talked about all of our levels. 00:28:29
But I don't know that anybody ever made a motion to say how much money they want to sponsor Pollinator Day for. 00:28:35
We we ran over all of them. We went over the native B level, the butterfly level, the Hummingbird level, and the beetle level. And 00:28:44
Melanie is the one that read them. I remember that very specifically, but at no point, I think that was December because I wasn't 00:28:49
here. 00:28:54
Through December or maybe January. 00:28:59
Because I don't remember that. 00:29:01
Yeah, well, Melanie read them and she read each each amount, but nobody ever made a suggestion. Typically we have done $100 in the 00:29:02
past because again, we we partner with Purdue on so many other things that and she gets money from. 00:29:09
A big chunk of money from Duke for that so. 00:29:17
This is 1 where we like say we typically give them $100. 00:29:20
And then we have our own booth and we give away our own stuff. 00:29:25
How have the? How are the expenses? Not for them though. 00:29:29
Oh, how have they gone up? Well, with just with more people, they have to buy more tents. They have to have more. 00:29:34
Products for kids and activities. So do you think we could do 200 then? I mean, oh, we could certainly do that. 00:29:41
But no, I was just thinking like if you know, just keeping in pace with the size that pollinator days, I think. 00:29:53
Going a little bit higher would be better. 00:30:02
All right. 00:30:04
That puts that puts us at the Hummingbird level of support. 00:30:10
All right. All in favor, aye. Oh, sorry. 00:30:18
All right, Perfect, perfect. 00:30:25
Hey, Nuke Bell's no style. 00:30:31
Can you ask me? 00:30:35
Well, we did that. 00:30:38
Election of officers. 00:30:42
So this is where you guys decide who's going to be the chairman and the vice chairman. 00:30:46
If he wants it again. 00:30:58
Where are you gonna delegate it to me again? 00:31:01
I can do this, you don't want to. 00:31:03
Second, there you go. OK, I'm not used to. Are we all in favor? 00:31:22
I. 00:31:27
2nd. 00:31:35
To make Laura. 00:31:37
Chairman. 00:31:39
Yay, cool. 00:31:40
All right, now you need a vice chair. 00:31:42
Yeah, yeah. 00:31:50
Last year. Thank you. Yay. 00:31:52
I second. 00:31:54
2nd. 00:31:55
You did. You did. You did. 00:32:02
You did all right. 00:32:04
So here we go. 00:32:06
Have to 2nd that and all were in favor Sir. 00:32:07
Someone has to know me. 00:32:11
Treasure. 00:32:13
I nominate Angel to be the treasurer. I second. 00:32:13
We all right? 00:32:18
Elections done. 00:32:22
Now here comes some good. 00:32:28
Indian uh trust Indiana investment. 00:32:32
Are we good on it? 00:32:40
I think everybody felt good with the answers that were given and the flexibility with which you could take money in and out and 00:32:42
that there was no penalties, no fees, no issues. 00:32:48
I have the forms from Trust Indiana. The lady send them all. 00:32:54
The one thing that. 00:32:59
Of the forms, kind of. 00:33:00
Outline is that obviously you have to have persons on it. 00:33:02
Currently Tom is on the PNC account. 00:33:07
Now, if you're going to be chairman, you will have to meet me at PNC Bank and provide. 00:33:11
I don't know what all they ask you for driver's license yet. 00:33:19
And then we can put you on it. 00:33:22
OK. And so that way you'll be able to sign checks on the checking account, OK. And if you're going to be Chairman? 00:33:24
You should probably be the point of contact on the Trust Indiana as well as me. 00:33:31
And. 00:33:36
A vice chairman. 00:33:37
I think there needs to be two board members along with me on the Trust Indiana stuff, so. 00:33:38
And we can work out. 00:33:45
The PNC thing, anytime you have availability, OK. 00:33:46
Now it's up to you guys to decide how much money. 00:33:50
Our savings account has seven. 00:33:56
$18,000 in it. 00:33:58
That's all that's right. 00:34:02
That's exactly we're going to move money. 00:34:05
From the savings account, not the check. 00:34:07
Yeah, we're making. 00:34:11
Exactly our savings account is. 00:34:12
Pitiful. 00:34:15
So what's the minimum that's required in medical there? There wasn't, there really wasn't a minimum, I mean. 00:34:16
Oh, it peans. It peans. That's what I want, PNC. 00:34:24
No, PNC, I think we have to maintain like 1000 or some dollars in our checking account. So I don't think we're we're not going to 00:34:28
be charged anything. We have plenty of money in our checking account. 00:34:33
As far as savings? 00:34:38
And again. 00:34:41
Not my decisions, totally up to you guys. 00:34:42
But I think. 00:34:44
Leaving a couple of 1000 in the savings account just to have that always. 00:34:46
Emergency, yeah, put 15 and investment and keep 2000 and change in the savings, yes. 00:34:51
All right, let's do it. So no. 00:34:59
See like How many transactions are we allowed tomorrow? 00:35:05
But PNC, I don't know that we have any. 00:35:08
We don't do enough transactions to get any limits. 00:35:11
I mean, that's what that was my question. Yeah. No, we, we have limited transactions and again, we're never going to, I think 00:35:16
exceed anything or be penalized. 00:35:21
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we have. We have safe. 00:35:27
Yeah. We have no bank cards and we have no credit cards. We have no. 00:35:30
Yeah, OK. 00:35:34
Oh, that's all. I'm like the motion in verse 15 and tourist second. 00:35:39
15K in the trustee. 00:35:47
Aye. 00:35:50
Our body's getting done, but I mean. 00:35:52
So you've been talking about this for real? 00:35:54
I mean, yeah, Melanie brought it up, Yeah. 00:35:57
Six months ago. 00:35:59
Yeah. All right. So we will move 15,000 from our savings account to Trust Indiana. 00:36:01
I don't know if I can do that. I like EFT, electronic funds or ACH. 00:36:09
But I will see. 00:36:14
What the easiest way is? 00:36:17
Because currently. 00:36:19
We have no. 00:36:21
Withdrawal on the savings. 00:36:23
I have no way to withdraw many anything from the savings account just sitting there, right? It's it's literally just sitting 00:36:26
there. 00:36:28
I have an account number and I have deposits that go into, you know, our savings interest goes into it. But yeah, I don't have 00:36:32
checks for that account. I don't have. 00:36:37
Yeah. 00:36:42
So we'll have to figure out how to get it over there. 00:36:43
It might be a matter of moving it from the savings to the checking to be able to move. 00:36:45
From there. 00:36:49
Via check. 00:36:51
You could just do a cashier's check and just do a. 00:36:53
That there's more money moves the more people get nervous. 00:36:57
So. 00:37:01
I guess just ask. 00:37:03
How to do it And then I will ask PNC because again, that's just not our savings account, just doesn't have any. 00:37:04
Means a withdrawal on it short of walking in there and. 00:37:11
Yeah, 'cause I think for our trust, for the funeral trust, I believe. 00:37:14
You can do check or EFT. 00:37:18
And that's what I'm thinking. The bank has worked with me before on EFT because that's how I had to pay the SBO 8 audit bill. 00:37:20
They they insisted that we pay it away. 00:37:27
All right. 00:37:35
OK, district policies. 00:37:43
This is something that. 00:37:45
I would like to have kind of. 00:37:51
In place like like a little Bible as far as secession planning is concerned. 00:37:52
So other districts have different policies for different. 00:37:59
And as I was ex. 00:38:06
We get audited by the. 00:38:10
Eight word accounts. The State Board of Accounts usually has uh. 00:38:11
To pretty much answers to everything. 00:38:14
They will either take exception. 00:38:18
Or they will not take exception and when it comes to spending money as long as you have a. 00:38:20
Policy. 00:38:27
That outlines how you're spending it while you're spending it. 00:38:28
The. 00:38:32
Does not take exception. 00:38:33
So for example, we don't have a policy about. 00:38:35
Buying shirts for board members. 00:38:38
That is an easy peasy thing that as long as we have a policy. 00:38:41
For it State Board of Accounts doesn't take exception. 00:38:45
If we wanted to provide meals at workshops beyond just the annual meeting, we have to have a policy. 00:38:48
So they don't take exception to it. 00:38:55
But basically. 00:38:58
The example that I have from La Grange County is. 00:39:00
They have everything from their internal controls. 00:39:04
Down to. 00:39:07
Card policies. Rental policies. 00:39:09
Everything capital assets. 00:39:13
So that is something that I would like for. 00:39:15
Us to have as well, and again, it's imperative for succession planning moving forward. 00:39:20
But umm. 00:39:24
That's something that maybe even if you guys wanted to just take a couple of you and form a committee and be the Policy Committee. 00:39:26
And look at examples that are already out there and then maybe trying. 00:39:34
I work with me too. 00:39:38
To to come up with these policies and then as a group. 00:39:40
Decide on them. 00:39:44
Because yeah, there are again. 00:39:46
Policies for just about an endless number of things. 00:39:49
As long as we have a policy for it, state board accounts doesn't dingus on it. 00:39:53
Yeah, especially as it relates to money. Now other things, you know. 00:39:57
Not so much, but. 00:40:02
Anyway. 00:40:04
I can work on that. 00:40:05
I mean, Cole's starting to work on it too, right? Yes, yes. And that's I'm putting him to work on that just. 00:40:06
First of all, getting different examples of different policies from other counties. 00:40:12
And then straight SVOA stuff that says. 00:40:16
This, this and this has to be done. 00:40:20
But basically, yeah, I want a little. 00:40:22
Binder that. 00:40:24
No pun intended. I want somebody to be able to walk off the street. 00:40:26
Open it up and be like, oh, this is what Angel does. 00:40:29
So. 00:40:33
Anyway, that's something. And besides you, does anybody else want to work on it? Do you want to work on it? I can try to help you, 00:40:35
it just depends. As long as it's good. 00:40:39
Work schedule. 00:40:46
All right, so. 00:40:48
We'll put Karen Brown on that and then again. 00:40:50
We can have as many or as few policies and as many things are as. 00:40:52
Pertinent. 00:40:57
Like we don't have to have a credit card policy because we don't have a credit card. 00:40:58
And as far as I'm concerned, we don't ever need a credit card. 00:41:02
For any reason. 00:41:05
So let's just avoid that altogether. 00:41:06
But anyway. 00:41:10
Policies. 00:41:11
OK, 2026 annual plan. 00:41:17
Yep, we talked about that under oh business. That's still a work. 00:41:20
In progress, we'll get it. 00:41:24
Look at me about the middle of. 00:41:28
He is. He's adding stuff to it. 00:41:31
Where can we finish something? See this? 00:41:36
I have copies of it. OK, yeah, so far. 00:41:40
OK. And it'll be on our web page too. OK, it's cool. Get cold putting that on there too. Yeah. 00:41:43
So basically our plan of work just highlights the areas that we want to focus on for the year, be it invasive forestry, soil. 00:41:49
Water pollinators, those are some of the major areas. 00:41:57
And then under each area. 00:42:03
What we're going to do for those? 00:42:05
In terms of education, outreach, workshops, things that we're going to do for each area. 00:42:07
Working on the scheduling too, when we're going to do, when we're going to do it, and then when we can lead it. 00:42:12
All the things. 00:42:17
Try to get the date set. 00:42:18
Sometimes it's TBD. 00:42:23
Yeah. 00:42:25
OK, tree pickup. 00:42:29
Set for March 20th. 00:42:31
I'm heading up to Bologna on March 20th. Are you on spring break? 00:42:33
Should be. 00:42:37
Well, if you have any interest in going to the State Tree nursery to see what that's all about, you're welcome to ride with me. 00:42:38
Yep, March 20th. 00:42:46
Yes, Kim from Bologna called me and told me that at the moment I think we have about. 00:42:49
300 seedlings plus the hundred that Ed just gave us today. So. 00:42:56
Right now about 400 seedlings to pick up. 00:43:01
Ravi Malay gold song play mod. 00:43:04
Yeah, just. 00:43:08
Talk to the other day after she said the Organism tree. 00:43:10
'Cause they're gonna plant that whole field. 00:43:13
I don't solely appeal to the way forward. Oh my. Wow. Nice, nice, nice conversion. Great. 00:43:15
But yeah, heading up there on the 20th and. 00:43:22
Hopefully the rain and water floodwaters will have subsided. 00:43:26
Yeah. 00:43:30
Yeah, it's tough getting to Bologna just because of. 00:43:31
You scatter took. 00:43:36
White River, yeah. 00:43:39
Both of them, Yeah. Mm-hmm. 00:43:40
Do we have plans on distributing them? 00:43:44
The trees. So what we do is we pick up Floyd County residents who have ordered trees. 00:43:46
And then we bring it back here to the office, and then the resident comes here and picks them up. 00:43:53
So basically we're saving them the cost of shipping them, which has gotten outrageous, Sir. Yeah. And as you can imagine, if 00:43:57
you're trying to ship 100 seedlings, that's not. 00:44:03
Yeah, that's not light, right? 00:44:08
OK, so yeah, we go up and I also pick up Gina's trees for Pollinator Day. 00:44:10
OK. 00:44:15
A wildlife seed. 00:44:19
Food plots, I ordered that from Lewis Seed Company yesterday. But we will need a motion to pay for it. Yes Sir, got to have a 00:44:21
motion to pay for it so. 00:44:27
Huh. I can't believe you're already doing that stuff. It just seems so now. 00:44:34
I got cats too. The interest in the cat. 00:44:40
It's all replacement. Yeah, actually that one guy was under the. 00:44:45
The mission to get them all fixed, but as you can imagine, a giant warehouse full seat. 00:44:50
Of course they have mice, so they have a slew of cats. 00:44:55
Yeah, yeah, they feed them all. Who wants to make me a motion to pay for £400 a seat? 00:44:59
Thank you. 00:45:06
Thank you. 00:45:07
I uh, they, uh. 00:45:10
Did not give me a date. 00:45:15
When it would be ready but. 00:45:17
And we have an. 00:45:22
Last year gave away Poly. 00:45:25
Not my first rodeo. 00:45:36
I'm facing OK, so Andrew's reached out to me. They have delivery dates available of May 5th. 00:45:47
6:00 and 7:00. 00:45:53
I want to have a screen. 00:45:56
Fish sale, they've actually. 00:45:57
Kind of changed. 00:45:59
Yes, they've changed. 00:46:04
What they're offering this year. 00:46:05
As well as. 00:46:08
30 pricing, but. 00:46:09
I'm not shocked. 00:46:11
Yeah, so. 00:46:27
Their prices went up just a little bit, but I think they have to every year just to keep up with everything. But again, this is 00:46:28
not as. 00:46:32
Large an option as they've had in the past. I feel like they've offered multiple different sizes of the red ear, but they're only 00:46:35
offering the one size this year. 00:46:40
They've still got the minnows and the grass carp and the koi. 00:46:45
But I feel like they're they're missing something up here. 00:46:49
I feel like they had. 00:46:53
More things to offer. 00:46:54
Don't let us know, I've got to say. 00:46:57
Yeah. And then the prices keep going up. Yeah, prices keep going up. 00:46:59
But if you guys are OK with it of. 00:47:03
Do you do we want to set a date? I would. 00:47:06
Actually prefer the. 00:47:09
The latter day, the 7th. 00:47:11
Yeah, the 7th would be better. 00:47:14
Because that's, you know, right after Derby and Mother's Day Saturday and. 00:47:16
Yes, and I figured we also need at least a good month or so of advertising it. 00:47:21
So we'll what day is it? 00:47:27
May 7th delivery. 00:47:29
Yep, so if you want to order fish, get them in before May 7th. 00:47:32
Give me small windows. 00:47:38
Feed feed your fish. 00:47:40
Of the transect is happening as well. Right now it's just drew in a. 00:47:55
Gina and I. 00:48:01
I'm interested in that. 00:48:03
Is it a work day? 00:48:05
Is it a work day for you? 00:48:06
What is it? What day? 00:48:09
It's March 11th. 00:48:10
Yes, next Wednesday. 00:48:14
Yeah. 00:48:15
Working, yeah. 00:48:16
Yeah, alright. 00:48:17
Well. 00:48:19
We will be conducting the transect survey next Wednesday. That's. 00:48:20
Yeah, that's where we're zigzagging around, just looking to see what's growing in the fields. 00:48:25
Drew, it'll be your chance to. 00:48:34
Get a. 00:48:38
A tour of the county with Jean and I. 00:48:39
And some of the wonderful things that Gina and I like to point out and looked at and. 00:48:42
You might even find a stalking people to invite to our workshops. 00:48:47
When we see that people have certain things or whatever, like get their address, we need to invite them to the workshop. They 00:48:52
might want to come. 00:48:56
OK, any other? 00:49:03
New builders. 00:49:05
Oh, let's see. 00:49:06
I had the Pol. I had the. 00:49:09
Bio swells and transect. We've got our pollinator day sponsorship. 00:49:12
We took care of paying for the breakfast. 00:49:17
We've got our. 00:49:20
You don't need a motion for. 00:49:23
Play invite. 00:49:26
Secretary of State. 00:49:27
Yes, yes, OK. 00:49:30
So, uh. 00:49:33
And keeping our sizma moving and going. 00:49:34
We were paying the secretary a stipend of $250 per quarter in order to just keep facilitating that. 00:49:38
We did that while we had the grant, but. 00:49:47
In order to keep momentum moving with it. 00:49:50
And to keep somebody doing stuff with it. 00:49:52
We'd like to to continue to pay that person. Are we good with that? 00:49:56
OK, so. 00:50:01
Can and again, it'll be it'll workout to $1000 a year. 00:50:02
Which is. 00:50:06
Laughable really, when you look at the kind of work that she's doing. But so real quick, let's assess that. 00:50:07
Do we need to increase it? 00:50:15
Is there? 00:50:16
I don't know if she would necessarily want more. 00:50:17
Taxable income in on a 1099. 00:50:20
We'll do that when we'll get returned on investment. 00:50:23
That's exactly what he was thinking about. 00:50:27
We need that money in order. 00:50:31
I can laugh like you. 00:50:32
$300 OK, you know. 00:50:33
Yeah. 00:50:35
I'll make a motion. 00:50:37
I paid $250 as Secretary Invasion. 00:50:39
All right, all right. 00:50:42
All in favor. 00:50:45
$250 per quarter. 00:50:47
It works out to $1000 a year. 00:50:50
All right, so this is the secretary and then real quickly to. 00:50:58
Many, many years back I was authorized to buy office supplies. You guys don't have to individually do that, but I. 00:51:04
Ordered us some name tags because that was something that the at the joint annual meeting. 00:51:13
Someone suggested. 00:51:21
How do I know who's on the board? You guys never wear name tags. So anyway, these are name tags that have a little magnetic 00:51:23
backing on them. 00:51:28
I was able to order them off of Amazon. They're about 9 bucks apiece, so I think the total order is about $57 or whatever. 00:51:32
I'm going to take that out of our office supply funds. 00:51:41
But just to make you aware that hopefully at the next board meeting you will all get shiny new badges. Yay so we can identify 00:51:44
ourselves. 00:51:48
And once we develop a policy. 00:51:53
I can order a shirt. 00:51:56
Again, so that we stand out at annual meetings and they're easily recognizable, but I can't spend any money until we have a 00:51:59
policy. 00:52:02
Yeah, and the only other thing is. 00:52:06
The I annual report came. 00:52:10
And along with it. 00:52:13
In the middle. 00:52:15
So our IASWCD dues. 00:52:18
You know those went up. 00:52:22
Two years ago and we now pay a considerable amount more but. 00:52:23
I think this is a bargain. 00:52:28
Considering. 00:52:30
We get cold now. 00:52:32
3900. 00:52:34
3900 dollars. I think Kohl's worth $4000. 00:52:36
Coal has has been wonderful in terms of. 00:52:40
Helping get us where we need to be with our website, getting everything updated with that, his availability to help and be an 00:52:45
extra set of hands at workshops, meetings, he comes to our system events. 00:52:51
And again. 00:52:58
I asked the receipt. He paid him. We don't. So that was just something. That's one of the perks we get from our dues. 00:53:00
So. 00:53:06
I know it was a big shock to us when they went up two years ago. 00:53:08
And I know there was a lot of bulking about. 00:53:12
What do we really get for our buck? 00:53:15
And then Cole showed up. 00:53:17
Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah. And now we've got a person. So I, I feel like it's we have some some tangible asset now for. 00:53:19
Money spent, but if you guys want to. 00:53:29
Pay the dues while we have. 00:53:32
Plenty of money. 00:53:34
I make a motion. 00:53:36
2nd. 00:53:37
And just. 00:53:40
All right, just like that. So we will. 00:53:42
Pay. I will pay our dues. 00:53:45
And any day. 00:53:50
Any day that you have available during. 00:53:51
Banking hours. 00:53:54
It's going to be. 00:53:57
Not this Friday. 00:53:58
It'll be two weeks from tomorrow. 00:54:01
Is my first time that I'm gonna have available. 00:54:03
OK. Is it OK? 00:54:07
Yep. And you just reach out to me and we have to go down to the to the bank. I'll take my file folder of all the previous chairman 00:54:08
and we just go through it all again and it just authorizes you to sign checks. 00:54:15
I'm sure kind of felt like it. 00:54:28
All right. And then I have claims and. 00:54:30
We spent some money getting ready for the annual meeting. 00:54:33
You ready to sign your name? I'm so ready. 00:54:36
So here the way claims were three signatures on each side. 00:54:38
And as long as it's not a claim for you, you can sign it. 00:54:43
Don't sign your own client. Yeah, you can't sign your own claim just. 00:54:47
Here. Yep, OK. 00:54:51
And sign it and then pass it around and somebody else and get a signature on it. 00:54:52
She signs fast. You have to go fast or she'll get you. 00:54:59
And are there any of your concern that? 00:55:11
I was telling Ron before the meeting that our Clean Water Indiana reimbursement came through March 2nd and that's an additional 00:55:16
7037 dollars, 1900 of which will go to. 00:55:23
Washington County because they. 00:55:31
For our partners on the grant. 00:55:33
You only need 3. Yep, just the three. 00:55:35
And basically, here's what you're looking for on these two. I just shoved it at you did. And I just was like, OK, yeah. But 00:55:38
basically you're comparing the check to what's on the claim to make sure that the numbers match, the amount matches, and then 00:55:44
here's the invoice that I paid to claim from. 00:55:49
I can't ever write a check without a claim. 00:55:55
The only way that works is when I'm getting reimbursed, if I've like gone to the post office and I've paid for stamps and I come 00:56:01
back with the receipt that shows I paid for stamps. 00:56:05
Then that's that. That's the way it works, but otherwise. 00:56:11
Not authorized. Ever issue a check? 00:56:14
You always, always have to have an invoice to issue a check. 00:56:19
OK. And justice like that, we have all of our claims signed. We have I think conducted all of the official business that we needed 00:56:24
to. 00:56:28
And I will have shiny name badges. He's going to have a shiny new MO U for us to sign at the next meeting. 00:56:33
Hopefully all right. 00:56:40
Well, I think with that. 00:56:44
Sir. 00:56:46
Second, all in favor? 00:56:50
Aye. 00:56:53
Maybe thank everyone for coming. 00:56:55
Alright, look at that. 00:56:58
Burning it up in an hour. I love you guys, unfortunately. 00:57:01
Well, I'm going head. I go. 00:57:06
Oh. 00:57:07
I'm sorry. Oh. 00:57:10
Let me go ahead and stop listening. 00:57:13
Thank you, glad to see her last time. 00:57:21
Yeah. 00:57:24
Wonderful, see you next time. You look better every time. We see you now feel better. 00:57:26
Oh yeah, I'm still on treatment, Yeah. 00:57:32
The. 00:57:36
Not sure when. 00:57:38
You're if I'm terminal or not, so. 00:57:39
It says my card and I get the 2 cardinal 5. 00:57:42
That's one of my. 00:57:47
