We're ready to start, whoever you are. 00:00:05
Victoria, it's all green. 00:00:08
Call meeting order. 00:00:12
Approval of meeting minutes. 00:00:14
I'll make a motion to approve last month. 00:00:18
Approved, aye? 00:00:23
Financial Report. 00:00:26
OK, we started the month. 00:00:28
Of with. 00:00:31
$81,803.29 on our checking account and we ended the month with 81,000. 00:00:36
$49.29. 00:00:44
Our savings account is $17,237.05, for a grand total of $98,286.34. 00:00:47
A motion to approve the financial report. 00:00:59
Aye. 00:01:02
Guest Readings. 00:01:07
I guess we can start with whoever wants to go first. 00:01:10
Good morning. 00:01:14
I am touching on a few things. One is the region meetings which I see is later on the agenda. So I can just at that point. But 00:01:16
we're pretty excited to have something a little more local. They will get more traffic that way. 00:01:22
We also have the 2026 Clean Water Indiana grant applications. They're due in September. 00:01:28
There is a lot of interest. 00:01:35
As usual, Think down South usually does. 00:01:37
Pretty well applications. 00:01:40
And I'm just encouraging everyone to whether they're. 00:01:42
Lead on a grant from their. 00:01:46
Some of the new guidelines might affect other grants, so you are wrapping one up. Are you going to be part of any? 00:01:48
2020 Sixers. 00:01:55
I don't have any plans to apply for any 2026 right now. OK, OK. 00:01:57
And then the other thing is ISDA has extended offer for an individual to be the clean water Unit program manager. 00:02:03
So currently DSS is do a lot of that work and that's one of many things we do. So this would. 00:02:11
Hopefully help bring a little more. 00:02:17
Attention to the program, which would be good, so worth that. Probably announcing it soon although. 00:02:19
These things do take their time. 00:02:26
That makes sense, but I will try to work. 00:02:28
About the region meeting as it's on the agenda. 00:02:31
It's probably nice for me. 00:02:34
Play Rachel Yeti song. 00:02:39
Yeah, so. 00:02:42
For my DC. 00:02:47
Talking points for August. 00:02:50
The Indiana NRCS reorganization update. 00:02:52
On regional hubs, so the Secretary of Agriculture. 00:02:58
Rollins announce the first place of USDA's reorganization. 00:03:02
Primarily focused on relocating a large portion of its Washington DC based down to 5 new hub locations around the country. 00:03:07
This mayor aims to reduce costs associated with the high cost of living in the DC area and brings the agency's workforce closer to 00:03:15
its core constituents. 00:03:19
More than half of the approximately 4600 employees currently working in the DC area are expected to relocate to five wheel hub 00:03:24
locations. 00:03:29
The five designated hubs are Raleigh, NC, Kansas City, MO. 00:03:34
Indianapolis, IN. 00:03:39
Fort Collins, Co and Salt Lake City, UT. 00:03:41
So you can find more information about that memo. 00:03:46
On the USDA website and there is a public comment period for the new reorganization, a 30 day public comment period for 00:03:50
stakeholders to provide feedback on the departments organization plan. 00:03:58
As outlined in Secretaries Memorandum. 00:04:06
All stakeholders, including USDA employees, members of Congress, and agricultural and nutrition partners, are encouraged to 00:04:09
provide feedback by emailing and reorganization at usda.gov. 00:04:15
The comment period is open for August 26, 2025. 00:04:22
If you anyone needs that information going forward I can give you a copy of it. 00:04:27
Update on FarmVille programs. 00:04:37
The removal of DEI criteria USDA is removing race and gender considerations from its program eligibility criteria and application 00:04:40
scoring. 00:04:46
This changes in a thin response to Executive Order 14151 and a final rule published in the Federal Register on July 10th, 2025. 00:04:53
Which prohibits discriminatory preferences based on race and sex and USDA programs. 00:05:03
Additional information on how this impacts and our CS financial assistance. 00:05:09
Programs is forthcoming. 00:05:14
The RCPP program so regional conservation and partnership program. 00:05:21
The only one that affects our area, well not even really Floyd County. We may have updated on this last month, but the Southern 00:05:30
Indian essentially landscape RCP. 00:05:35
The passage of one Big beautiful Bill Act resented an obligated RCP. 00:05:43
IRA funding. 00:05:48
And national headquarters staff are currently awaiting guidance on how this ultimately impacts the future of this project. So RCP 00:05:50
projects. 00:05:54
At this time, they're pausing all Land Management and our easement applications for the project until additional guidance is 00:05:59
perceived in the mid quarters. So. 00:06:03
That project is based in southern Indiana, as it says. I don't not quite this far South, but. 00:06:08
Just up, you know, just our neighbors to the north, so. 00:06:14
A small farm. Technical assistance. 00:06:18
3 Indiana NRCS or Urban agreements, are getting ready to expire in FY25. 00:06:22
Shannon Zula, state resource conservationist, is working on a plan to add additional funding to these agreements to continue small 00:06:29
farm technical assistance. This effort will move to a more boots on the ground concept. 00:06:35
More information will be shared if it lends money to secure. 00:06:42
Small judging assistance. 00:06:49
State office school staff are available to assist with high school sole judging contest this fall if needed. 00:06:51
And there's contact info there if anyone needs it. 00:06:57
And return to office. So the return to office efforts continue. Most USDA employees are now working out of an office. 00:07:01
The next phase will be to open an assigned desks and service centers and St. offices to outside investigating agencies. 00:07:10
GSA is currently working on an agreement with each agency for that. 00:07:18
So and that. 00:07:25
Is all of my updates. I don't have anything. 00:07:27
Very specific to Fled County this month, so. 00:07:31
That is pretty well Olive got for you. 00:07:38
Sounds like a whole lot of. 00:07:51
Still unknowns. 00:07:53
Yeah, yeah. 00:07:54
Theme of the year. 00:07:59
OK, Liza, you have anything? 00:08:03
Yes, I might be a little long winded today. Actually I'm going to talk a little bit about a CWI application. 00:08:06
I know I mentioned it too well before and we did have a meeting this past spring for our Farmers Health and Health Initiative 00:08:13
partners. Our funding does expire in December. 00:08:19
There has not been another notice of funding coming out to renew that. We're told that there will be one, but even if it came out 00:08:25
tomorrow. 00:08:29
We applied and we got accepted and all that good stuff. There would still be a pretty big gap. We wouldn't expect that to start 00:08:33
until later in 2026. 00:08:37
So we're. 00:08:42
Experimenting with maybe some other funding opportunities and seeing what might stick. 00:08:43
Clean Water Indiana is but something we've been considering for a couple months now and it seems like a really good path. Good 00:08:49
marriage between health members that need good clean water, good water quality and water so. 00:08:55
I've got some materials here that we put together. 00:09:02
For this grant, I did send out an e-mail a couple weeks ago now at this point. 00:09:05
So I've got some maps here. 00:09:15
Of our project area, because it is a little different from where we currently are with our RCP renewal we were looking to. 00:09:20
We were looking to expand anyways into Clark County and the rest of Floyd County, the sort of southeastern part of Floyd that is 00:09:35
the Silver Little Kentucky watershed. 00:09:41
It is something that we think health vendors might be in in the next few years. A 14 mile Creek looks like a pretty good 00:09:48
candidate. There is a dam on that that if removed we could absolutely be putting health workers in very quickly. So we want to go 00:09:55
ahead and start working on water quality there as well and we did not previously include the little. 00:10:02
Portion of Orange County that is in the blue rivers of the watershed and we're looking to include them this time. 00:10:10
Moving forward. 00:10:16
I will say there are some active CWI projects in our area already. 00:10:18
So. 00:10:23
We aren't looking to overlap with those practices. We want to add and create some new opportunities for folks. So we're leaning 00:10:24
more into the wildlife habitat practices that will enhance water quality. So we're thinking things like some of your edge of field 00:10:32
practices like field borders, filter strips, things like that. But then we also would be looking to cover. 00:10:40
Riparian buffer tree plantings. 00:10:49
Pollinator habitat and then we also wanted to hit invasive species removal through brush management as well. So those are some of 00:10:52
the practices we're looking to fund through this potential CWI. I do have a rough budget here, not all of our. 00:11:01
Potential partners have officially signed contribution letters. 00:11:09
So this is a rough budget. 00:11:13
But just to give you an idea of what we're looking to potentially request, we are looking to cover not only cost share, but a 00:11:17
project coordinator salary to prevent any unnecessary burden on our project partners. I have to stick that up. 00:11:25
So the long and short of it is I I think we'll probably request a ride around $100,000 instead of 125,000. I've been doing some 00:11:39
research on equip. 00:11:45
And what's been spent on these practices in recent years and what's been kind of unfunded, what the backlog is for some of these 00:11:52
practices in these watersheds. So as I'm coming up with those numbers, I will kind of scale that to match what we would like to 00:11:57
request. 00:12:02
But. 00:12:08
The in kind is pretty solid. We it's looking like we'll be able to use a grant out of Washington County at 319 grant is in kind 00:12:11
match. We do have some cash matches already set aside for this from partners who have said Yep, they want to definitely do that. 00:12:19
But that full number, the 70,000 cash match I've come up with. 00:12:26
That has to cover friend benefits for the project coordinators since those cannot be paid on through CWI. 00:12:34
So. 00:12:43
My my sort of vision here was. 00:12:45
Taking what our partners wanted to contribute to our CPP. 00:12:47
And then having maybe a little portion of that cut out. 00:12:52
Moved over to CWI. That way no one feels like they have to contribute extra on top of what we already talked about last fall. 00:12:56
Umm, so that's something I'm asking you all to consider as well. I have a copy of your renewal contribution letter from last fall 00:13:04
if you want. 00:13:08
Any reminders of what that looked like? And then I also have a sheet with some of our partners. 00:13:13
Have expressed. 00:13:20
Interest at least, maybe either verbally or I have put you down as. 00:13:21
Some somebody who would be great to work on this project. So all of the SWCP is I wrote down a few of them I've already talked to 00:13:26
and kind of signed on to, but I'm in the process of course board meetings. 00:13:33
Harrison County. 00:13:41
Come up with anything Harrison County SNBC in terms of cash. I have not officially talked to them yet, but verbally they think 00:13:43
that they would be happy to do that. 00:13:48
So we just. 00:13:53
That's what I was thinking, yeah. 00:13:56
Right. So this this last check that we wrote for 5000 was the 3rd and final end payment on a $15,000 agreement that we signed 00:14:02
three years ago. So this was the renewal letter from last fall where we were hoping to get. 00:14:09
Sort of an early renewal to this our current RCPP. 00:14:18
You guys had talked about keeping the $5000 donation, but this is over the course of five years instead of three. So that total 00:14:22
was looking like 25,000. So this is like a big commitment. 00:14:27
This, well what I, what I was sort of envisioning is that we take some of this money maybe just five or then 10,000 of that and. 00:14:33
Shuffle it to CWI. That way you're not contributing. On top of that, if we get another chance to apply for CPP because the goal is 00:14:41
to continue with RCP as well, and for some crazy reason a notice of funding comes out immediately and we happen to get approved 00:14:47
for both CWI and RCPP. 00:14:54
Because they're covering some different practices, I think they can run concurrently and really complement each other in that way. 00:15:00
We could even potentially use the CWI grant as. 00:15:06
Which is pretty. 00:15:12
But I didn't even come up with that. The RSPP state coordinator for NRCS was like, hey, he pointed that out and I was like, well, 00:15:15
that's kind of cool. So right, right. They might work together well, but we're just thick sticks. Keep this momentum going. 00:15:21
Well, it's good that you have two potential funding sources. 00:15:29
Even though our CPP right now doesn't look to be. 00:15:34
Home life but. 00:15:38
Yep, I will say so, yeah, with what Rachel was talking about, that project was funded from the Inflation Reduction Act. So that's 00:15:40
that's a good chunk of the reason why it's not moving right now and a lot of the funds for RCP in the coming years for property 00:15:46
inflation production. 00:15:51
So that's that's probably why we're seeing delays on a notice of funding. 00:15:58
Gotcha SO. 00:16:02
You'll just keep the board. 00:16:04
Updated on where you stand with your application and so forth. 00:16:07
Yes, and the application is due September 4th. So if you all did want to contribute, we would have to have a contribution letter 00:16:12
signed by then. 00:16:16
Again, this is not something that. 00:16:22
You all I need to do when my e-mail I sent out I I recognize that some RC. 00:16:25
Partnership. It will be a good fit to do both programs. 00:16:30
That's just something we want to discuss and decide on it and if you answer any questions. 00:16:35
For your application, what do you need from this board? 00:16:42
Ideally being able to funnel. 00:16:48
At least $5000 in that cash match to CWI, so then your RCP. 00:16:51
A commitment if that there's a friend they didn't come along would be 20,000 instead of 25. Again we're not looking at your double 00:16:57
dip here and our partners were more yeah that's really fun. I didn't know if you needed a letter from. 00:17:04
If you would like to send me an example of that, absolutely. Basically take that letter and. 00:17:13
Change some wording and. 00:17:18
So we want to vote on. 00:17:21
Essentially, we kind of already did. But yes, for the record, absolutely just. 00:17:25
On the record. 00:17:31
What your commitment is to? 00:17:32
Of the CWI application they're going to apply for. 00:17:35
So hard motion to me. 00:17:39
Fund, 5000. 00:17:41
And help them CWI. 00:17:43
The seven dead. Oh my God. 00:17:46
Aye. 00:17:51
The little Kentucky thing is at Silver Creek. 00:17:53
That does include, yeah. And I will say we have had a home under sighting or two there in the last, you know, 5 or 6 years, one 00:17:57
for sure confirmed who's an old hellbender. 00:18:04
In what part of Silver Creek? I would have to ask this for sure. We don't necessarily see it as a super viable option at this time 00:18:11
just because of the water quality. Yeah, I was going to say if it's. 00:18:16
It's been my understanding that Silver Creek's been A-303-D. Yeah. However, OK. 00:18:22
I think he was pretty big, you know? 00:18:28
Adult health vendors are quite large and new. It's just old. The juveniles need really good. 00:18:30
Hang around, Yeah. 00:18:39
They might. There's a dam, yeah, on 14 Mile Creek. And I will say that, you know, Purdue has nothing to do with advocating to get 00:18:46
that taken out. But should it get taken out, would uncover a lot of good health in their habitat. 00:18:52
According to the surveys. 00:18:59
I didn't know either, that's why I'm just like. 00:19:03
But I'll look that up and get back to you. Are there, are there plans to move that Mainly there's been talks. 00:19:07
I think it's no, I don't think it's in the Charlestown park at all. I tell you where I think it is. I think it that for. 00:19:15
That part of 14 Mile Creek. 00:19:22
Runs past the Boy Scout. 00:19:24
And for whatever reason, you're right, I feel like there is a dam by the Boy Scout because I had to. I had to do a. 00:19:27
Environmental badge teaching there years ago. 00:19:33
But that's on 14, OK. 00:19:36
All right. 00:19:41
Gina did not have an update to share. 00:19:44
She and I have been planning. 00:19:49
Fast and furiously, as you guys have seen with all the workshops. 00:19:51
But a? 00:19:55
A quick update for you though. The pasture workshop that was planned for this Saturday has been cancelled because we have no 00:19:56
registrations for it. 00:20:01
And, umm. 00:20:06
Uh, with that though, one of the people that was going to speak at that, I think has agreed to come and speak. 00:20:07
During umm, uh. 00:20:14
The 4th grade field trip. 00:20:16
If I'm not. 00:20:18
Getting my wires crossed with that so. 00:20:19
That was about the only thing that that Gina had. 00:20:26
Set alarm on judgment. Went well. 00:20:30
Yeah, I was there. 00:20:33
Tell me that she saw you. 00:20:35
Which is awesome. 00:20:38
I'm sorry, I didn't understand. 00:20:40
Llama Alpaca. 00:20:43
Oh, OK, OK, cool. 00:20:44
Oh, you have anything you wanna? 00:20:51
I'll introduce myself. 00:20:54
Yeah, absolutely. 00:20:57
So my name is Colt Flat. I'm working with the new program with IASWCD. Some people call it the state association. 00:20:59
I'm a resilient Indiana technician. 00:21:08
Which basically means I'm assigned. 00:21:11
5 counties here in southeastern Indiana. 00:21:14
Jackson, Washington. 00:21:17
Floyd, Crawford and Orange counties. 00:21:20
So I'm trying to. 00:21:22
Be in their offices about once a week just. 00:21:24
Providing support for the districts. 00:21:27
Whether that's helping with CWI grants or. 00:21:30
We weeded and mulched one of the pollinator gardens here last week. 00:21:34
Select right. 00:21:39
Yes. 00:21:42
Ha ha. 00:21:43
Well, I was not happy to see that, Vince. 00:21:45
Yeah, we had. 00:21:49
Half mulch that was wet. 00:21:51
We were in the semicircle and we packed from there. 00:21:56
Put the fence around them. 00:22:04
Plate Garden. 00:22:06
We were able to drive right up next to the garden to do all of our work when we installed it, but now there's a fix. 00:22:11
We had to bucket everything and. 00:22:18
Yeah, back to mulch were very, very heavy because they were wet. 00:22:20
But anyway. 00:22:25
I've got some plans with Angel to do some website updates for y'all. 00:22:28
Build a contractor list that would include like seat sellers. 00:22:33
Grass waterway construction. Heavy use bed construction. 00:22:38
Invasive species removal specialist. 00:22:42
Foresters. 00:22:45
Maybe even some like arborists and things like that, but. 00:22:48
I previously. 00:22:53
A little bit about me. I graduated. 00:22:54
Purdue with the degree in 4th St. 00:22:56
In December of 22. 00:22:59
And then started working at Johnson County Soil and Water. 00:23:01
That spring afterwards worked there for about two years. 00:23:04
And then was supposed to start as a soul con within our CS. 00:23:09
Unfortunately with the. 00:23:13
Hiring freeze didn't workout for me. 00:23:15
But. 00:23:18
Got hired. 00:23:19
On at Rita. 00:23:20
Right around May and then my first day was then. 00:23:22
June 30th. 00:23:25
At Johnson County, I have experienced doing tree sales. We did. 00:23:28
A lot of invasive species removal with the system focal system there. 00:23:32
Worked very closely with NRCS doing project designs as well as going on landowner visits and things like that. 00:23:38
And then attended statewide meetings and. 00:23:46
Things like that to build my knowledge base. I come from a. 00:23:49
Forestry background I had a little bit of a learning curve on the agronomic side of things, but. 00:23:53
Always open to learn more and you know. 00:24:00
Fit in my role the best I can, so I guess. 00:24:03
Does anyone have any questions about? 00:24:06
What I'm doing? 00:24:08
Things like that. 00:24:09
Is. 00:24:18
These one person offices don't have the. 00:24:18
Capacity always to get the work done that they want to get done the work. 00:24:21
Things like that. 00:24:25
I think 3 of my 5 offices are one person offices so. 00:24:28
Everyone says I don't have time to get into schools or I don't have time to run events because they're too busy. 00:24:33
Doing great management and running board meetings and. 00:24:39
Everything else, you know, all the administration. 00:24:43
I feel like. 00:24:47
Just over. 00:24:48
They get less and less time. 00:24:50
Yes, to do the real work. 00:24:52
Put that forward facing. 00:24:54
You know. 00:24:56
Be in the community and. 00:24:57
Provide outreach and education and things like that. So. 00:24:59
Hoping to just give you all the. 00:25:02
More time. Basically I've got some business cards. 00:25:04
And then maybe could you guys give me a little introduction to yourself, see where you got one? Do you want another? 00:25:09
Yeah, yeah. 00:25:14
You're Laura. 00:25:16
All right, So I'm not in Malaysia. I've been on the board for about 5-4 or five years already. 00:25:24
My degree is in horticulture. I was a master partner for several years. 00:25:32
I'm not doing that right now. 00:25:38
And, umm. 00:25:41
This is good work I really respect. 00:25:43
I really like the best. 00:25:46
The partnerships. 00:25:47
Text Ultimate. 00:25:55
I'm Ron Watson. I'm. 00:25:58
Vice Chair here. 00:25:59
I'm the forestry guy here, I mean. 00:26:01
Get out the forest rewards up in the. 00:26:03
Business for almost 30 years. 00:26:06
And we got a great board here. 00:26:08
Really work good because. 00:26:10
I'm the original world and how I just grow right here. 00:26:12
Well, the best thing we've ever been. I've been here almost 18 years, I think, maybe 20. 00:26:16
OK. 00:26:20
But I welcome the board and. 00:26:25
You know, anytime I can help you, let me know and I'll let you know if you could help me with. 00:26:27
We've got a great, great. 00:26:32
Great morning going there. Try to keep everybody busy. 00:26:33
We got almost too much to do, so we'll put you to work. 00:26:36
Tom King, Chairman. 00:26:42
I think we did something. 00:26:44
You met him at the Sysmo? That's right. Yeah, right. Very briefly, yeah. 00:26:46
So I enjoy this. 00:26:52
Wish I had more time. 00:26:54
You know, getting involved in more stuff. 00:26:56
You raise cattle, correct? 00:26:59
Look up Square Mail. 00:27:03
And I think the rest of the folks you know from other offices, yes, Rachel and Eliza. 00:27:09
Yeah. 00:27:15
I think you were at the Purdue or the CPAC. My birthday a couple of weeks. 00:27:17
Yeah, yeah. 00:27:23
I've been meeting a lot of people. 00:27:30
So in addition to some of the. 00:27:35
List that Cole has mentioned and he's going to work on compiling for us because occasionally we do get folks that call. 00:27:38
That say hey I have a sinkhole. 00:27:44
You have a contractor that can come out well. We don't keep contractor list. 00:27:46
Have not in the past, but that is something. 00:27:51
We can't make a recommendation, but we can certainly give somebody a list to say here's a list of six different companies to do 00:27:54
it. 00:27:58
In exactly. So coal is going to work on that as well because we don't have a list of contractors that address sinkholes, which is 00:28:02
pretty common. 00:28:06
People that do dam construction and maintenance. 00:28:11
That's another one that we frequently get calls on. 00:28:14
One of the other things in addition to the website I'm going to ask Cole to help with while we have its time is going out and do 00:28:17
some water quality testing for us. Stuff that we already have baseline, we have gobs of baseline data and we've not done it for a 00:28:23
couple of years. So that would be a great thing to just to make sure that we're maintaining the water quality that we have around 00:28:28
here. 00:28:34
And then Cole has offered up helping with some of our events and of course, you know, we have. 00:28:41
Like 7 or 8 events coming up. 00:28:47
He's already attended one of our system meetings, so. 00:28:49
He must help us with that. Next week is a week we have a we bring coming up next week in fact, so. 00:28:53
Have a list of all of our projects He does. And yeah, I've, I've extended an invite to to the Cornucopia since it covers a lot of 00:29:00
the counties that you're covering. Every single one of them exactly so. 00:29:06
Yeah, and if you need me, register. Yeah, I've already got it all signed up. 00:29:13
Perfect. All right then. 00:29:18
Also coming up I guess is a. 00:29:20
Farm Tour. 00:29:23
And that's open to both supervisors and district staff. That'll be. 00:29:24
At Pakistan Farm up in Jackson County. 00:29:29
And I believe the date is September 11. 00:29:32
Yep, I think so. 00:29:36
Yeah, I think the purpose was to. 00:29:39
Invite districts and then supervisors first and then they'll open it up to partners. 00:29:43
General public after that so. 00:29:49
A couple of times. 00:29:54
It's in Jackson County and it's right next to below me. See nursery. 00:30:02
It is right next to Columbia. Seek Nursery Nursery. 00:30:08
And the Hackmans were recognized as farmers, the visit Farmers of the Year. Yeah, the. 00:30:11
Annual conference, conference, yeah, I think the date for that to sign up is. 00:30:18
Next Monday, so. 00:30:25
11 August. 00:30:27
And then after that I'll open it up to. 00:30:29
Having a registration numbers there's. 00:30:32
There'll be some food, I know some watermelon and. 00:30:36
So they do. They kind of do everything like they do. 00:30:41
Yes, I still do beef cattle and they do throw crops produce. 00:30:44
And then? 00:30:51
Ruth used to be a DC in Washington County. 00:30:52
That part with Ruth over the years. 00:30:57
I think that's it for me, but. 00:31:02
My card if you have any questions or anything. 00:31:04
OK. 00:31:13
State Board of Accounts compliant. 00:31:18
They have yet to send me the bill. 00:31:21
I still am waiting. 00:31:23
But. 00:31:26
I haven't received it yet. 00:31:27
It's looking like it's probably going to be roughly $4000 based on what the guy said in our exit interview. But again, that's just 00:31:29
a rough estimate. We haven't received the actual bill. 00:31:35
Really. That's hot. That might not seem like it's right in. 00:31:40
Oh, trust me, I balked at it. 00:31:47
But the guy told me that the prices have gone up. 00:31:49
Threefold since the last time we had an audit 4 years ago. 00:31:54
Our last audit was roughly 1300 bucks and so when I suggested that, gosh, that's. 00:31:58
That's triple what we paid and he was like, because our rates have tripled since the last time you were audited so. 00:32:04
Again. But hey. 00:32:10
Laura, would you like to share the average cost of an audit? 00:32:11
Oh gosh, I'd have to go through my e-mail on that, but. 00:32:15
We have data going back to 2022 statewide like anytime the district. 00:32:18
How's the grant review or? 00:32:22
If they're willing to share that cost for us. 00:32:24
So we have an average which I can pull up. 00:32:27
But we what I probably need to do to start including the range because the most expensive one that I've seen is 6000 dollars, 6000 00:32:30
something. 00:32:35
But the average itself is. 00:32:40
Pick ups. 00:32:43
So, umm. 00:32:44
Appreciate. 00:32:45
An Angel. Be willing to share that once. 00:32:46
It comes out and I can look that up, but. 00:32:48
To me, that's very helpful. 00:32:52
So that district can plan for your next one. 00:32:53
Do you know you're going to review Penny? What to expect? 00:32:56
Yeah. So I'll look that up and then. 00:32:58
When he gets in, send it back. It's $4000. 00:33:01
Come with some kind of stick major. 00:33:04
Right, that's what I'm saying. Everybody said I need to be. 00:33:09
Yeah, right. Given the fact that they had no comments and that everything was in order, yeah, Wow. 00:33:12
I do though feel like, and I don't know how we go about expressing this but. 00:33:18
My audit was conducted by newbie. 00:33:24
A lot of a lot of them are new and so I wonder how much learning curve we've all paid for. 00:33:28
Right, because several things that my person asked me for. 00:33:34
I had to go back and point out here that it was already there. 00:33:38
Yes, and. 00:33:42
That's I've heard that too and I feel like that stuff, yeah, I feel like that's a legit concern that. 00:33:43
You know they fill out hourly, yes? 00:33:50
Oh, yes. Oh. 00:33:53
Wow. And so. 00:33:56
Right. It opens up a Hokie and worms, Yeah. 00:33:58
How many of those hours did we? 00:34:01
Get billed for when. 00:34:04
That was your learning. 00:34:06
Yeah, on the job training. Yeah, exactly. That's the best way to put it. We we paid, we paid for that. But it's just like a 00:34:08
private company that does. No, it's the State Board of parents. Oh, OK. 00:34:13
And there what is my mind? 00:34:19
I had no idea that like you. 00:34:22
Yes. 00:34:25
It's randomly selected. 00:34:28
So no, you have regular compliance audits that you have to do that are conducted every. 00:34:33
Four years. 00:34:40
That's concerning. 00:34:44
That's a whole lot so. 00:34:45
Send e-mail on. 00:34:48
July 24. 00:34:52
For 28 counties, the average was $3598.04. 00:34:54
For 3598. 00:34:59
Yeah. And that's not 100% comparing apples, apples because some of these are three-year and some have been 5 S. 00:35:02
Audience, yeah, but regardless, the end bill is probably more interested in and. 00:35:08
The range, like I said, the highest. 00:35:14
Big pad and it's a $6000. 00:35:17
Built and a lot of their time was spent. 00:35:22
Looking at they had a couple staffing grants, one was certainly more Indiana. 00:35:28
One was 3/19 and they spent a lot of time. 00:35:34
Or at least the questions the staff thought most of them tied back to that grant so. 00:35:39
Make a lesson learned from this was like they had. 00:35:44
For these technician positions they're in outside accounting firm do the payroll. 00:35:48
And have passed like 3 years of the accounting firm to have the paperwork anymore and. 00:35:52
It just kind of a very lengthy. 00:35:57
Yes, but. 00:36:00
A lesson learned is you know I need to use. 00:36:03
Hire someone up to do that. It's quite a good idea to get copies. 00:36:05
Your own and keep those. 00:36:09
Yes, please. Wow. Luckily she was there. 00:36:11
Through the autumn years. So at least she knew where to look or where to go to. That helps, but a lot of history there. Wow. 00:36:16
OK, sponsorship by Mount Saint Francis of Erosion Slave Run DART. 00:36:27
So. 00:36:33
Mount Saint Francis, you know, they were looking at multiple different quotes on their their work, but I do believe they have 00:36:34
selected a. 00:36:39
One of the contractors to go with. 00:36:45
Brother Don is currently out of town. 00:36:50
Left him a message following our last meeting. 00:36:54
So. 00:36:57
Whenever he's back in town. 00:36:59
I will get with them and get their check cut based on which of those quotes they went with. 00:37:02
Now slave run. I've already cut checks to let us learn. 00:37:09
For all of the soil over there and we ended up buying a garden hose. The garden hose for Slate Run exactly. 00:37:14
They didn't have one long enough to really get over there from where the spigots were, so I bought a garden hose for them and then 00:37:24
I. 00:37:28
Like I say, we went over and took care of the mulching and and we needed the rain garden so. 00:37:33
There will be another work day over there. 00:37:39
For the let us learn in of it, getting all of those little robots set up and ready to go for the school year. 00:37:42
And I can text or e-mail you guys that work day. It's going to be a Sunday and it's. 00:37:49
Just for the Slate runs out of it, too. 00:37:55
Yes, and people were happy to get money. They're always happy to get a little bit of assistance with their work. 00:38:07
OK, work days and workshops. Try to. 00:38:32
So we're going to go over those one more time just so I can give you an update on where we are on all of those, but the one that 00:38:35
is coming up most. 00:38:39
Soon this weekend has been canceled again just due to nobody attending it or signing up for it. 00:38:44
Umm, but because we had set aside $600.00 for corda lids. 00:38:52
For that pasture workshop. 00:38:59
We now have $600.00 that we can spend on something else since we don't have to have the portal it so. 00:39:03
Of this great garden. 00:39:10
Workshop that we have coming up out of the CM Sean Foundation. 00:39:12
If we want to put some of that 600 towards plants. 00:39:16
Buying plants out there, that's an idea for something to do with some of that money that we had set aside for it. 00:39:21
Yeah, that was my family, so. 00:39:30
We didn't, actually. 00:39:32
Check for that since we we just passed a motion for it, but I never wrote a check for it. 00:39:34
So again, we have that $600.00 available. We also set aside $400.00 for soil testing. 00:39:42
I want to keep that $400.00 for soil testing where it is because we might do another. 00:39:50
Program before the end of the year where we can offer soil testing for the first. 00:39:56
20 folks that show up. 00:40:01
So we'll keep that, but. 00:40:03
As far as the. 00:40:06
Planting. 00:40:08
Do we want to use some of that money to purchase plants? 00:40:11
I think it's a great idea. 00:40:15
Myself because. 00:40:18
Native plants and plugs, kind of like what we put in over at Slate Run and out of the 4H fairgrounds. 00:40:21
We had to go out there to drop seed that native nursery and well, we don't have to now because we have Peacock Nursery right 00:40:28
around the corner, but we can. 00:40:33
Buy plugs for it. 00:40:38
Yep, I motion. 00:40:44
Did you motion a second? 00:40:47
And. 00:40:51
How much of that 600 do you want to commit to plants? 00:40:52
It's really hard, it's hard to know, so plugs. 00:40:57
Are they? Is that like a? 00:40:59
So what do you have to get those things? Well, we can get plugs from Peacock Nursery. We can also get them at Drop Seat Nursery. 00:41:03
But plugs are just a really nice start. They're not like, yeah, plant, you know what I'm saying? 00:41:10
Exactly. 00:41:17
Because I have no idea. I mean, you're going to get a variety of. 00:41:21
Different names. 00:41:26
Just flowers or shrubs or trees or just just. 00:41:27
Plaintiffs. OK. 00:41:32
But I'm 86. 00:41:36
Scholars that you may you know depending on. 00:41:38
Well, anyway, that's fine with me. 00:41:41
Just for reference, Kara, what's the average cost of a plug over at Peacock? I think it is 6 or $7.00. And that's what Yeah, but 00:41:48
the. 00:41:53
I don't know how. 00:41:58
So I haven't worked there in a couple weeks. Yeah, she doesn't have a lot of plugs. She has a lot of mostly like mature points. I 00:41:59
don't know if she's over anymore. OK, But a lot of the plants like the gallon pots are like 12 or $14,000. Yeah. So again, they're 00:42:04
they're not cheap. 00:42:09
I've got plugs in the spring too and they were. 00:42:16
Anywhere from three to seven dollars depending. So that sounds pretty spot on. 00:42:19
Yeah, yeah. 00:42:26
All right, so. 00:42:29
We'll spend 600 on native plants and any. 00:42:31
Native plants or clothes that we don't put there, we can put out that community park. 00:42:35
We've already done the planting out at Community Park. 00:42:40
Where we cleaned that stuff out and we put in native plants back there and I'm sure we do more so. 00:42:47
We will not have a shortage of places to. 00:42:52
No, the stuff we planted out at Community Park, I don't, I don't know that all of that came from Peacock. I think that came from. 00:42:59
Great Line Rd. Beer St. 00:43:07
Because they ended up donating, we bought some natives and then they donated some I think choke cherries or something. 00:43:09
I wasn't OK. 00:43:19
Yeah, sorry. No, that's OK. We yeah, there were a couple of shrubs that played it out of Community Park so that, you know, roughly 00:43:20
6-7 roughly, you know, about 75. 00:43:25
So and again, it's a giant area and. 00:43:33
We're not the only ones going to be putting money on this. Sam Shine Foundation is also going to be. 00:43:38
Owning your money for it as well. 00:43:44
We've got a backup plan. 00:43:48
Yes. 00:43:50
Yes. Would they match that 600 evenly with you guys or would they? 00:43:51
She never suggested what dollar amount, just that they would be willing to pay for some of the installment as well. So. 00:43:56
Oh yeah, we can ask. And it's not like they're not going to. I'm just saying that they've, they've never given me a dollar amount 00:44:04
to. 00:44:08
Exactly but. 00:44:13
We have a very, very long. 00:44:14
Plant list that was suggested for out there that had what 2530 species on it. So there's no, there's no actual design for this 00:44:17
place. We're just. 00:44:21
Right. Or are you? 00:44:26
I do not have it right here with me, but yes, there is a really yes. 00:44:28
I didn't have anything to do with it. I just feel you came up with. I did the list. Yeah. I was like, I have no idea what. 00:44:33
Size area. 00:44:40
Rain garden. 00:44:41
No, Gina. Gina will help with that because different things like to be placed in different locations within the rain garden, Some 00:44:43
things. 00:44:47
Really, really like wet feet and some things just like wet feet. 00:44:51
And some places just like gravel, right? Something it's just like gravel. 00:44:57
I'm sorry. 00:45:07
August 25 tore your tiller up exactly. 00:45:12
Hang on, I'm. 00:45:16
See the. 00:45:17
Yep, Saturday, August 23rd and that is a nine to two workshop. We're going to be serving some lunch snacks on that one. 00:45:18
Yeah. So part of the morning is going to be learning about like classroom instruction about design, layout and things like that. 00:45:26
And then the hands on portion of planting would be in the afternoon. 00:45:32
Are your brother's seats capped on? 00:45:39
No, no, on that one. The more the merrier and. 00:45:43
I would if I did not have something else, yeah. 00:45:48
All right. 00:45:57
Yeah, do it. We have. 00:45:59
A flyer for it. OK, yeah, I have a flyer for it over on my office. Well. 00:46:02
The deal? 00:46:10
OK, live stream requirements. 00:46:18
Yeah. So obviously we are live streaming for the first time today and. 00:46:21
What is going to be required along with that lab streaming? 00:46:26
It has to be archived. 00:46:31
And available so once it's saved today. 00:46:33
We're going to have to. 00:46:38
How's that on our page of the county's website? And again, that's something that I have asked Cole to. 00:46:39
Assist with. 00:46:46
In addition to our live streamed archived videos, we also have to have the meeting minutes and the agendas to accompany them. 00:46:48
And as you guys might have noticed down the left hand side that your. 00:46:58
Your whether you were appointed or elected along with your terms. 00:47:03
That now has to be posted on Floyd County agendas. 00:47:08
I don't think that's a state requirement. I think it is a local requirement that they've asked all boards to outline who the 00:47:12
members are, how they were. 00:47:17
Ended up on the board and what their terms are. 00:47:21
So. 00:47:24
Addition to their. 00:47:27
I did see that in the State Board of accounts, like one of the bulletins, so this is really helpful. 00:47:29
Make sure that with other mistress. 00:47:34
It's simple and again. 00:47:38
It's a it's a new thing now. So anytime you see an agenda hanging out in the hallway now. 00:47:43
You will find. 00:47:49
The members of SET board and what their terms are. 00:47:50
A book update. 00:47:58
That puppy is finally going to go off to the printer at Purdue this month and. 00:48:00
60 I know I feel like Gene and I've been dragging that down now for 2-3 years basically since the start of this clean watering 00:48:07
anagram and we are in the last six months of it. So as I have told Gina. 00:48:13
Post taste my friend. This thing has to be done and and we need to be giving out copies in November so. 00:48:20
Anyway, that's that's where we are with that, which is good. 00:48:27
One piece of old business, though, and. 00:48:32
Shame on me. 00:48:34
Our first ad ran in the news interview. 00:48:36
And of. 00:48:39
The article was half page ad and it was color and again I'm shameful I do not have a copy here. 00:48:41
I meant to go by the museum for me to grab a coffee. 00:48:49
When's that? 00:48:52
It went out July 31st. It would already rain is what I'm saying. I'm shameful I do not have a copy here to share with you. 00:48:54
It was in the Tribune. 00:49:02
It was we. 00:49:05
We spent 2600. 00:49:08
Yeah, yeah. 00:49:10
We spent because you guys agreed to spend 3000. We ended up getting 6 ads for 2600. 00:49:12
We'll have ads, half page ads run in July, August, September. 00:49:20
And then in October we will have a full page ad of advertising all of the things we're doing the month of October. Because if 00:49:24
you've noticed, on our list of things in October, we have something every single week in October. 00:49:31
Umm, so that's going to be highlighted in the full page ad and then there will be two additional half page ads run in the month of 00:49:39
October to coincide with. 00:49:43
Of the outreach that we're doing. 00:49:48
We've already created some buzz with that. 00:49:54
Apparently some. 00:50:00
But he just could not wait to get on Facebook and blast us over, suggesting. 00:50:01
Virginia. 00:50:09
Yes, and this person said that Virginia Creeper is a native. 00:50:11
And I just let Gina handle that. 00:50:16
We suggest. 00:50:19
As a. 00:50:22
Alternative alternative. 00:50:23
To. 00:50:25
Because Vinca is an invasive. 00:50:27
Virginia Creeper is not. 00:50:29
And invasive. It is a native plant. 00:50:31
And this person? Absolutely. 00:50:34
Flipped that. We suggested Virginia Creeper because it's. 00:50:37
She suggested that it was. 00:50:43
An invasive and that it was. 00:50:46
Of an allergen and that she had had. 00:50:52
Attacks of. 00:50:58
Virginia Creeper, She's been fighting it for years in her yard. How dare we suggest to people, and have we ever had an infection 00:50:59
from it? 00:51:04
So I. 00:51:10
Yeah, right. 00:51:11
So I let Gina. 00:51:13
Very politely replied that. 00:51:15
It is. 00:51:18
In fact, a native. 00:51:19
That's not. 00:51:21
That's not an arguable point. And the other thing was not everyone is allergic. 00:51:24
And if. 00:51:31
You are allergic. 00:51:32
Case mistaken identity. 00:51:34
I'm right there with you. 00:51:36
Chances are she was probably dealing with Poison Ivy. Yeah, again, she was not real happy about that, but. 00:51:37
Well. 00:51:56
Apparently she had a. 00:51:58
Bad reaction and. 00:52:01
Was. 00:52:03
Basically just wanting to be argumentative. 00:52:04
And Gina was having none of that and so. 00:52:07
Exactly so. 00:52:14
We stopped engaging the lady and commenting with her on Facebook and she's still waiting on a reply about have any of us had a 00:52:15
reaction to it? So again, we're not going to. 00:52:21
Yeah, we're not arguing with people. We're just stating facts. There you go. 00:52:28
And fact is. 00:52:32
It's a native. 00:52:35
It's an alternative to data. 00:52:36
Move on. 00:52:39
Right Vanderburgh County has. 00:52:40
Social media policy that they develop for their local attorney. 00:52:43
Maybe check out they have. 00:52:47
And you know, we have never, ever, ever, ever, ever had an issue with somebody. 00:52:50
Posting anything wanting to be argumentative and in this case. 00:52:56
She can just argue with herself because she's not engaging anyone on on our page and she hasn't said anything or threatened or 00:53:02
anything, so we're just going to let her comment. 00:53:07
Yeah, I mean that's that's the whole point. 00:53:12
Of social media so you know you're not going to always get. 00:53:14
Someone that it makes. 00:53:19
Democracy. 00:53:22
Yeah, anyway. 00:53:27
Good deal. 00:53:30
A new business of summer regional meeting. 00:53:33
I think we're all signed up except for you. Are you coming? 00:53:36
This is the one in Stocksburg and this is the one that Laura has a little more information for us, but I. 00:53:42
If you are. 00:53:51
I have not signed you up. 00:53:53
OK, yeah, got to have a president and. 00:53:59
You were OK with giving some remarks? 00:54:06
Again, because PJ is not going to make it and Laura said you can either have opening remarks and welcome people or closing remarks 00:54:10
and thanking everybody for coming, whichever you want to do. 00:54:14
OK, there you go. You got a commitment. Yes, wonderful. 00:54:21
Appreciate that. Yes. So I also want to take Angel. She's been on the smaller group of e-mail chains as we discussed this, but. 00:54:24
I received some questions. 00:54:32
Are these summer summits this year? So summer summits are the name of the regional trains we've had in the last few years. 00:54:34
That are 4 areas of the state so. 00:54:42
We're not having those this year. 00:54:44
We decided to do is let each 1/8 of the state decide if they wanted to have a meeting. 00:54:47
You know, they could locally decide what's on that agenda. So that's what this is. 00:54:52
Pretty excited, Kevin Baird, we're getting that access to Cornucopia farms for free. 00:54:56
So I'm just interested, I think. 00:55:02
I'm interested in attendance, just in that it's so much closer to home. 00:55:04
We have one, the eighth of the state it sounds like all eights are going to have. 00:55:08
One so I'm looking forward to that so. 00:55:12
Thank you, Angel for your help and Ron's super excited that you'll be able to welcome everyone. Thank you and I'll just keep. 00:55:15
You don't do emails that correct. 00:55:23
He does have an e-mail now. OK, OK. So what I'll be doing is I can periodically send like our numbers to like. 00:55:26
Angel in Virginia. 00:55:34
My PJ doesn't. 00:55:36
OK, he could text but there's a smaller group in Kristen from Ida just to let you know how many people there are. But the Barons 00:55:38
have been responsible. They don't need the numbers till last minute and the association is paying for visa so. 00:55:44
I'm looking forward to see how it goes. Yeah. So that is our is that. 00:55:52
Fire out on. 00:55:56
I mean our Facebook page. And no, because it's not open to the public, it's just for SWCD and staff. 00:55:58
So I will not be sharing that. 00:56:05
OK. 00:56:07
And if you have a guest or spouse that want to come, that's fine. We did clarify that. 00:56:08
But it won't be open yet. 00:56:14
Children. 00:56:17
That was the question they got. 00:56:18
It would they would have to. 00:56:19
Hire staff. 00:56:21
If we had kids there. 00:56:23
And since this is green. 00:56:25
Thank you again for helping. 00:56:31
Absolutely. I think it would be a good, good time and this is something that actually came up at our ID. 00:56:34
Meeting it's weird this spring out of. 00:56:40
And the fact that IA SMCE was willing to pay for the food that we were going to have in this thing. 00:56:42
And then coming up with topics that were relevant and this is something that is directly relevant to this board is the trust 00:56:51
Indiana Pacific that Melanie had wanted Cindy to come and speak at one of our meetings. But I feel like I. 00:56:58
We'll have an opportunity to to engage Cindy there and talk about our investment. 00:57:07
Opportunities. 00:57:13
So at this point of. 00:57:16
Laura. 00:57:18
Is the only one that has not said that she would sign up. Melanie, Matt, Ron, Tom. 00:57:21
Elise is going to come. Care is going to come. 00:57:29
So I think we'll have a really good showing out of Floyd County. 00:57:32
Obviously I'll be there as well, so. 00:57:37
That's funny. I can't remember that. I'll just see I can send out. Yeah, no, that's OK, I'm pretty sure. 00:57:43
Pretty sure I did. 00:57:52
I'm so sorry I have to slip out to another meeting. Very good to see you. Thank you. 00:57:55
Yeah, it's on that. 00:58:03
I I emailed. 00:58:09
What's the first name? Cindy Martin. 00:58:11
Back in. 00:58:16
A few weeks ago. A couple weeks ago. 00:58:18
Do you use Trust Indiana? 00:58:40
I don't have anything with them that districts that I know of who work isn't pleased. 00:58:42
But that might be another chance too. You want to. 00:58:46
Just talk. Somebody's actually using it. 00:58:49
Yeah, and I think what we, you know. 00:58:53
We're interested in doing. 00:58:56
Investing. 00:58:59
Not just getting more information, it's actually talking to some of the media. 00:59:01
December 10. 00:59:06
Right. 00:59:08
I mean, although it would be interesting just to see what kind of. 00:59:11
Interest rates there. 00:59:16
They have better than. 00:59:18
Of CDs yeah, settings. 00:59:20
Yes. 00:59:23
A fourth grade filter. 00:59:26
All right, so as you guys know, 4th grade field trip is coming up. It's going to run 3 days in order to have smaller groups, a 00:59:29
little bit longer time at each station. 00:59:35
That's going to be a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, the 17th, 18th and 19th. We have a lot of cool. 00:59:42
Folks already lined up to do the speaking this year, a couple of different. 00:59:49
Of people that we've not had in the past, which is going to be really, really cool. 00:59:55
So again, if you are available the 17th, 18th or 19th and you will come out and help. 01:00:00
Please let me know because we never have enough hands those three days. 01:00:06
Yeah, any any day you want to come help, just show up. 01:00:13
September 17th, 18th and 19th again. You just show up before 8:00. This kiddos start rolling in there. 01:00:19
By like 8/30, 8:45. 01:00:29
And we need, you know what it's like when those buses start rolling in and they unload and we got to get lunch and smooth and 01:00:32
coolers and yeah. 01:00:36
It's busy. 01:00:40
And then getting them all on their. 01:00:42
Various. 01:00:44
Routes, getting them started. 01:00:46
Fun day though. 01:00:49
Yeah, come on now. I didn't get, like I said, any day that you want to go. 01:00:52
Show up, show up and I will find something for you to do. 01:00:56
And again, we're in good shape with that when we have sponsored 1200 dollars. 01:01:02
Gina's not asked for a check yet because we haven't had to pay for the portlets and washing stations. 01:01:08
That's what those dollars would be funneled towards. 01:01:14
OK, uh, that. 01:01:20
House for sure. 01:01:21
All right, finally nailed Matt Dennison down and had him confirm that yes, the Parks wants to be one of our partners on this bath 01:01:22
house workshop. 01:01:28
And they are willing to split the. 01:01:33
Cost right now J estimated materials to build. 01:01:36
25 bath houses would cost roughly $500. 01:01:43
Matt said that the. 01:01:48
Parks Department would be happy to pay for half of that. 01:01:50
So the parks will spend 250 if we can spend 250. 01:01:55
The deal with that, though, is that. 01:02:01
Parts would get 12 of the bath houses. 01:02:03
What kind of weather is it? 01:02:06
Does it need any wood? 01:02:10
I don't know. 01:02:11
Do you have wood? 01:02:13
OK, then, now. OK, well, hang on now. Now we need to back up. 01:02:16
Ron, I didn't know we have potential material, so. 01:02:22
Yeah, let me ask Jay. Let me ask Jay because he was looking at. 01:02:28
Purchasing I guess the same material that we built bad houses from last time. 01:02:32
He is willing to donate his time to cut all the pieces for us to have the kids literally ready to assemble, OK. 01:02:38
So so. 01:02:48
I think it's a great idea that the Parks is paying for half of it and we'll take basically half the boxes and then put them up in 01:02:50
the Parks properties. 01:02:54
Just these are all. 01:03:00
County parks, State parks, County parks, OK County parks. All right. 01:03:02
Yeah, and we have quite a few of them. Yeah, even. In fact, we met him. 01:03:07
We met him at Jensen Trails Tuesday morning. 01:03:12
Let's talk about the bamboo, yeah? 01:03:16
Oh, it's definitely bamboo. Don Slack came down and identified him. 01:03:20
She laid down the. 01:03:26
The Smack. 01:03:28
And yeah, we'll, I'll give you an update on that real quickly too, but for the bathhouse workshop. 01:03:31
If the Parks is willing to spend 250. 01:03:36
Even if. 01:03:40
He can't use your material. Can we just make a motion for 2:50 in the event? 01:03:41
That we need to purchase anything for it and that way we have it. 01:03:46
Select Motion. 01:03:49
All right. 01:03:50
Perfect. 01:03:53
Perfect. 01:03:54
Yeah, there you go, in the eyes. 01:03:56
So basically again. 01:03:59
Wonderful workshop. He just confirmed that it will be at Shelter House 1 and because he just confirmed that yesterday. 01:04:02
Yeah, Shelter House on September 30th. 01:04:10
Shelter House one at Community Park. It is the very first shelter. As you come into the park, it's on the left. It's the big one 01:04:13
by the playground. 01:04:17
That shelter has one. 01:04:22
And again, he just confirmed that that was available September 30th, so I will have a. 01:04:24
Flyer put together for that with extension. 01:04:32
And ourselves. Parks Department. 01:04:36
And then Gina extended an invite to the. 01:04:39
Health Department. 01:04:42
Asking them if they wanted to come speak. 01:04:45
About. 01:04:48
What to do? 01:04:49
Do you find a bat in your house? 01:04:51
And that was. 01:04:54
Parameters of. 01:04:56
The top that they were invited to give? 01:04:58
That's it. 01:05:03
So anyway. 01:05:07
We do not have the agenda set for that, but. 01:05:10
It's going to be an educational thing about the benefits of bats. Why? 01:05:13
You know what they do? How? 01:05:18
How important they are to to helping things and then of course, what to do if you find one in your house and then we're going to 01:05:20
get. 01:05:23
Building the bat houses. 01:05:26
And you can take them with them when they leave. 01:05:28
That's the whole point. We want them out in the public. 01:05:31
Just like we did with the 100 bath houses that we built several years ago. So they're only taking. So if we're going to. 01:05:34
Build a total of 25. Only 13 will be available. OK. 01:05:41
And if we have 13 people who are willing to build bad houses, we'll have another one in the spring. Yeah, Yeah, we'll go with some 01:05:46
more. I think that's good. 01:05:51
Yeah, I do too. So good deal on the bat house workshop. And again, we'll have fire ready for that. 01:05:57
A budget. 01:06:09
I had my meeting with Dale. He came in, we sat down, we went over the budget, as you guys know. 01:06:11
We have one of the second, like the second smallest budget in Ho County. 01:06:17
Outside of my salary, they don't. 01:06:21
I mean. 01:06:23
I would tell you my salary, so the big chunk of it, but. 01:06:24
Anyway, Dale commended us on. 01:06:28
Always returning a little bit of money at the end of the year and not being of the mindset. Lucid or or use it or lose it. 01:06:31
So we got a compliment that we don't try to spend all of our money in October to avoid giving back. 01:06:39
And then he also pretty much suggested that. 01:06:46
Cutting 100 or $200 from our budget wasn't going to amount to any kind of significant anything. 01:06:50
So he was going to recommend that our budget be approved as submitted. 01:06:56
Of which is basically. 01:07:02
Spot on. 01:07:04
Same as it was last year, with the exception of a 3% salary increase which the council had approved like 2 years ago. This was 01:07:05
part of their. 01:07:09
Stepped increase that they did. 01:07:14
The budget hearing itself. 01:07:17
Has not been set, but those usually take place during the month of September. 01:07:19
So I expect to be getting an invite to that any day now. 01:07:23
OK. Any other business? 01:07:36
Yep, just real quickly. 01:07:38
Of update on the bamboo situation out at Jensen Park. 01:07:41
As you know, it was. 01:07:45
Apparently questioned as to whether or not there was bamboo, someone had suggested that it was in fact river cane. 01:07:48
No, Don Slack, which you guys know. Don came and spoke at our annual meeting. She is pretty much considered the authority in the 01:07:56
state on invasives. 01:08:00
And she pulled up at the bottom of the hill, open the car door and stated, Oh my God. 01:08:05
She was absolutely blown away by the fact that. 01:08:12
She does not think that that is new growth. 01:08:16
Whatsoever. 01:08:19
That it was not planted by Mr. Jensen to. 01:08:21
Put a barrier between him and that. 01:08:26
Subdivision that's being built. 01:08:28
No, John says. That stuff has been growing for roughly 3. 01:08:31
40 years. Wow. 01:08:34
Yeah, she says. The growth, the height, the. 01:08:37
Thickness to stalk. 01:08:40
She says that's about 40 years worth of growth. 01:08:42
She estimated the cost of removal to be somewhere around $17,000 in five years. 01:08:46
5 Five years to kill it. 01:08:55
Yes. Well, yeah. 01:08:57
Right and Tree of Heaven. 01:09:01
Just because of the way it's right here. 01:09:02
Or why again, where is this? 01:09:07
It's it's in that brand new part of the regional part of the Jensen Trails and there is roughly 2 football fields of it. 01:09:09
It creates a. 01:09:18
Canopy as you walk into the trails. 01:09:20
Creates canopy and this stuff is. 01:09:24
14 foot tall. 01:09:28
I mean, it's just tall. 01:09:30
So anyway. 01:09:33
We have set an initial work day. 01:09:34
For October, November. 01:09:39
And again, that will depend on. 01:09:41
How many volunteers Gina can get? 01:09:43
But. 01:09:46
Looking at November because it's going to be cooler. 01:09:47
And. 01:09:51
Don suggested that once some of it was cut. 01:09:52
And the leaves stripped off of it that we might be able to sell it to people who want to make. 01:09:56
Steaks, Garden steaks, tomato steaks, Small shelters. 01:10:03
Pollinator palaces. 01:10:08
But it might be a way to recoup. 01:10:11
Some of the costs involved because despite having free labor volunteers. 01:10:14
It's again going to involve some. 01:10:20
Equipment. At some point it's going to involve some. 01:10:24
Herbicides at some point. 01:10:29
Yeah. 01:10:31
Well, again, we have a lot of different suggestions as to how to potentially. 01:10:34
Remove it. 01:10:41
But once it's cut down. 01:10:42
You can do whatever, it's not going to regrow, you know what I'm saying? 01:10:44
Oh yeah, they were chainsaw. You like chainsaws? 01:10:49
I don't know, I thought you had to remove them. 01:10:54
What is the direct deal that's gonna have to be killed? We're trying to harvest what we can by cutting it down and stripping the 01:10:55
leaves, and then we'll have the the poles themselves to do something with. 01:11:01
But yes, as far as killing it. 01:11:07
Yeah, it's going to. She was suggesting like front loaders digging, digging it up. Once you've cut it down, you can't go in there, 01:11:10
do anything until you. 01:11:14
Start cutting it down. 01:11:18
And then you can start digging it up, turning stuff over and killing the insulin. 01:11:19
The only other the other the thing that I. 01:11:28
The other on the new business was. 01:11:32
We didn't have time to talk at all about succession planning, so I. 01:11:35
I had that on here. I thought that was, I thought that was like one of those. 01:11:40
Reschedule that. We certainly can. It's just a little bit harder for her to make it since she covers so many counties making it to 01:11:54
to a board meeting. But. 01:11:59
What can happen though is we can set up a Zoom meeting or something. That's fine. 01:12:03
If you have an age where you can pop, let's zoom out. You guys are so close. I got five more years. 01:12:09
Not for her. 01:12:17
Just trying to hang in there. 2-2 years, four months, guys, two years. 01:12:22
We can't even yank or change. 01:12:27
I know she's that determined. It's like she can't even give her any grief about oh. 01:12:30
Before we dismiss. 01:12:35
The idea fall conference is happening and that's the conference for district employees. 01:12:38
The conference this year is going to be in Brown County, even though like the Northwest. 01:12:46
Region is hosting it. 01:12:54
They've opted to host it in Bloomington. 01:12:55
Attending costs 150 bucks but it's over like 3 days. I would not be staying at the hotel, I would be commuting. 01:12:59
Even the Brown County is not that far. 01:13:10
That's that's where our basic conference was. Yes, yes, and that was two years ago. 01:13:14
This is actually going to be at the Marina, but again, I don't intend to stay there. So we wouldn't be looking at any hotels and 01:13:20
reimbursement. 01:13:25
And again, this is not actually at the 8 Martin Lodge, this is at the Reno. But anyway, this is in October 15th through 17th, so. 01:13:36
Before I signed up for it because it costs money, I wanted to ask you about it. 01:13:50
150. 01:13:57
I'm leaving tomorrow in second. 01:14:01
And you know, conference is really good because. 01:14:05
Again, it's put on by district employees in every single thing is geared towards what we do in our work life. 01:14:08
Yeah, and we are going to have people there from first. 01:14:17
And as I get closer and closer. 01:14:21
More important it is for me to understand her, what's going on with it, and I have questions. 01:14:24
Public employee retirement funds. 01:14:30
Public employee. 01:14:33
Yeah. 01:14:36
But anyway. 01:14:39
So, so, so we can. So Laura, you know. 01:14:40
At least I'm I'm pretty serious about this whole succession. I think we're all serious. We want to be able to do. 01:14:45
The right thing, right? So do you want to? 01:14:51
Doing the same thing I can. I'm so close I can do either I can come down or OK. 01:14:55
Did somebody shove that to maybe September or? 01:15:01
Yeah, I don't have problems with whatever you guys want to do. 01:15:07
Or if you guys want to come in and. 01:15:11
You know, if we have a meeting that's not a board meeting where you're not making any. 01:15:13
Financial decisions, you're not making any motions where you're just discussing potential. 01:15:18
Personnel, we can do that over there because it's not a public meeting. 01:15:25
And because it involves A personnel issue, it doesn't have to be public, right? 01:15:30
You have to look at the executive. 01:15:36
Session list so we could call it an executive session. 01:15:38
Is this an issue? 01:15:42
I love it. 01:15:47
So we don't have to record if we do an executive session exactly an executive session because. 01:15:48
Sometimes there are things that. 01:15:55
Discussed in executive sessions that are not Privy to. 01:15:57
And personnel issues are usually one of them. 01:16:01
And even though this is not a disciplinary personnel, this is looking at, you know. 01:16:04
I think it would still fall under that. 01:16:11
So, so do you all want to, so you're suggesting maybe scheduling a separate meeting from our board meeting so we have? 01:16:13
And we can have it over in our meeting. 01:16:20
I'll throw this out too. 01:16:23
We're having a succession planning workshop for districts. Yes on Monday. 01:16:26
I do have a. 01:16:31
Two people cancels their space and one person would like to attend. 01:16:32
But I want to explain what it is so. 01:16:36
Years ago there was a template developed and then my coworker kind of tweaked and had a workshop. 01:16:38
And we're just. 01:16:44
What we're going to be doing is. 01:16:45
Building through like the components. 01:16:46
Or sections of what a succession plan could entail. Oh I see, so. 01:16:49
There was the original version. 01:16:55
And then up north they had. 01:16:57
Like maybe 25 staff. 01:16:59
Work through and they added some tabs to the spreadsheet. 01:17:01
And then on Monday, we're going to be going through and thinking about. 01:17:04
You know what needs to be in it, so some of the framework is built. 01:17:08
But a lot of its discussion. 01:17:11
You know what else could be in there? What do you guys do? 01:17:14
But that is an opportunity. I did have two people cancel. 01:17:17
So where I was? 01:17:21
On this issue, it's this coming Monday, I think I'm not going to be able to. 01:17:23
OK, yes, Monday over in Ferdinand. 01:17:26
I'm sorry, say that again. It's on Monday. 01:17:32
In Ferdinand, which is Dubois County, so exit 63. 01:17:35
But that's what we're going to work together. 01:17:41
Movies. Documents. 01:17:45
So would have details like exactly. 01:17:47
I guess the table of contents, yeah, no, it's just kind of. 01:17:53
And that's an all day thing. 01:17:57
We are scheduled from. 01:18:00
2:50 Now the one up north got done an hour early, so I don't think it was. 01:18:02
That long, But the people like the Richard group of people who wanted to have it, we did want to plan. 01:18:06
Lunch like people who want to. 01:18:13
Because a lot of it's just me. 01:18:16
The networking. 01:18:18
So yeah, and having people to reach out to and ask. 01:18:20
We had this situation which is about this situation. 01:18:24
And then we have like the admin position, we have the technician position, the educator. So some may or may not apply and like. 01:18:27
You, like broad staff, do everything. 01:18:34
So. 01:18:36
Like this piece? 01:18:37
Of education that Angel works on. You know, we have a tab for that and then you would take it home. 01:18:39
So to speak and sell outwards. 01:18:44
So it really sounds like this spreadsheet thing is actually like. 01:18:49
And yes, it could use as a tool. We don't have anything. I know you all did something a few years ago too, so. 01:18:59
You know, that might be just something you pull into your. 01:19:05
Well, maybe more. 01:19:09
I don't remember that, but I. 01:19:12
I thought it was. That's nice. I was thinking of you, Angel. It was a she got hit by the bread truck, right? Oh, yeah. She trained 01:19:16
me on. 01:19:20
Yep, because you never know when you might get hit by red truck. 01:19:25
She trained me on her work, on her job and. 01:19:28
Yeah, I still have those notes. However, I bet they're all like totally irrelevant, right? And some things have changed, some 01:19:32
requirements have changed, and. 01:19:36
The good thing is, is that there might be somebody who might be interested in learning my job, so that's good. 01:19:42
Like somebody. 01:19:49
All right. So I have my claims and you guys signed your board meeting minutes. 01:19:51
I think that is everything. 01:20:02
Till our next meeting. 01:20:05
So I just need a. 01:20:07
All right, I said. 01:20:10
Of heaven, all right. 01:20:12
There you go. All right. 01:20:15
Meeting adjourned. 01:20:17
Turn off the recording. 01:20:20
I was fortunately unable to go to the Jackson County meeting on Monday. I you were there. 01:20:34
